Daniel Goddard reports that around 80 mixed mirror and common carp between 5 & 10lb have been stocked into Victoria & Biddulph Angling Society's Serpentine Lake. This was done over 2 phases, the first in early November and the second in early December, although the majority came in the second phase. VBAS hope the fish will grow fairly quickly, given the surplus of natural food provided by the recent change to the natural cycle of the lake. Before the stocking it was estimated that around 40 carp inhabited the lake, most of which were over 10lb up to about 32lb. Now, estimated to be 120 carp which will bring the lake back in line with the carp presence of the late 80's, early 90's which many anglers say was when the Serpe was at its peak. ![]() The carp introduced are from a reputable UK dealer and are an 'English' strain of carp. In particular, some of the mirrors have some stunning colours and markings which will only be enhanced as they mature. This stocking has long been overdue but it is only thanks to the work and dedication of a few volunteers and all the support from Staffordshire County Council that have finally put this water back on track and given a realistic chance of The Serpentine regaining its status as being one of the best carp waters available for miles around. ![]() Anyone interested in joining Victoria & Biddulph Angling Society should visit our web-site http://www.vbas.4t.com for more information. |
