Borrowed bait bags 30lb Pendle Common!

Hello everyone,

Wasn't it lovely to see the sun at the weekend. Pendle View sure looks pretty when the sun is shining and we had lots of anglers take advantage of the weather over the weekend. Here is the fishing report.

Main Lake (pleasure)
The main lake is showing good signs of improvement from last week. Casters and pinkies are best baits. The long pole and loose feed with a size 18 or 20 hook - just off the bottom little and often with loose feed. The ground bait feeder is starting the skimmers and bream to feed but anglers are having to wait for bites and swooping to the maggot feeder after every 15 or so cast. There is good sport to be had. A really nice bag of silvers weighing about 30lb plus fell to Mr. Lord, and another angler signed in as Mr. Clapham caught a nice bag of silvers weighing about 12lb plus.

Doughnut Lake (pleasure)
The doughnut lake is fishing really well. Pat Wood fished peg 119 on long pole in the week and caught some lovely tench, carp and silvers. Pat was fishing caster and micro pellet at 14 metres and catching steady all day. I have had some great emails this week from other pleasure men who have had some excellent results on this lake. This lake is certainly coming into its own and we expect a fantastic season.

Main Lake (Carp)
What a change round this week. We have had some excellent catches. The biggest catch of the week goes to Mike Hesford with his 31lb 8oz common. Mike caught this fish around 3.00pm after arriving at Pendle View in the morning. Mike said that Ryan our fisheries superintendent helped him tie a rig and gave him an orange pop up to try. It was Mikes first visit to Pendle View. Mike was advised by Ryan to cast out to about 50 yards. Dave Rothewell caught a nice 26lb mirror using a nash boilie and Kyle Pearce caught a 12lb mirror again to nash boilies. There have been some other nice catches this week including a 16lb ghostie, 13lb mirror and an 11lb common. These other fish were caught on maple 8 and fusion boilies. I have attached a photograph of the 31lb 8oz common caught this week. We have also attached a photo of the earlier 35lb that came out last month and a 'mystery fish' with angler. The common looks like a high twenties fish and was found on the fisheries camera when we returned from holiday. It was obviously caught in January - does anyone out there know the angler or the weight of the fish please?

Fly Lake
The fly lake is producing some really good sport for the fly anglers with a river dance lure being the top fly at the moment along with Flexi floss bloodworm and buzzers. Floating lines with a slow figure of eight retrieve or using an egg fly on a strike indicator and letting it drift around seems to be giving the best results. Here are the averages.

GENERAL
Just a quick reminder that you can receive personal emails from me every Monday if you want a direct fishing report. The fishing report is posted on our web site each week as well. www.pendleview.co.uk under fishing reports.

We are submitting a plannning application this week to the local authority asking if we may join several of our stock ponds together to make another lake. We would like to use this lake as a learner pond. In 2006 Pendle View became accredited as an educational facility. In order to become accredited we had to demonstrate that we were fully up to speed on health and safety/duty of care etc. We also plan to erect a log school house so that youngers and perhaps even older learners can be shown the joys of fishing. In line with this project we have also written a six module course for coarse fishing. The hope is that we will be able to introduce lots of young people into fishing. Reason goverment trials that have taken place with young people by the in the south of England have shown that fishing helps reduce crime and vandalism, whilst raising awareness of the environment through sport. If our planning application is accepted we hope to have it up and running in the early Spring. This will also help take the pressure off the main lake and learners and young people alike will have a lake that they can fish and call their own. When designing this new lake we have taken into consideration that we have a lot of anglers who have special needs. The new lake will allow access for wheelchairs. The fishing platforms on this new lake have been designed specifically with this in mind. A major feature of the project is a wide access path behind the fishing areas. The school house will house up to groups of 15 learners at any one time. We have been approached by several schools and educational bodies to use this facility if it is granted.

The Trout Lake
When work commences on the above project we also plan to remove the silt from trout lake and some of the more established reeds to improve fishing further. We will of course keep you posted on all of these projects as and when we know more.

Hope to see you on our banks

best wishes
