Pendle View Fishing Report for Weekending 10th December 2006
Dec 13,2006 00:00 by Lin-Davies
Hello folks,

So sorry this is late. There are just not enough hours in the day at the moment. Here is the fishing report for last week.

Doughnut Lake (Pleasure)
The weather has been quite up and down. Despite this we have had a couple of brave anglers fish the lake with some really good feedback. Ten or so anglers have reported some really good catches with carp and silvers showing to loose feed pinkies and caster on the long pole.

This time of the year when the weather is cold we try to net all our lakes. Last Saturday we netted the Doughnut Lake. We netted over three hundred pounds of mixed silvers, including some nice tench and carp on a simple two pass netting. Given there is a deep central channel with near enough vertical sides and that lots of wily fish would just go under the net, this was better than expected. Overall we - and the guy who did the netting suspect we have upwards of 700lbs of fish in there. It was particularly good to see some smaller fish as well, as that means the fish are breeding well too.

Shortly, we are to install a (world's first) Newton aerator on the lake too and armed with the information we now have, we shall be asking the Environment Agency if we can stock more fish in 2007. We really do want to make this lake you first choice for silver fishing and we are making next year's ticket just £5 for this lake except for match days. I took a video of netting which took about five hours in total. I have enclosed a couple of snapshots with this report so that you can see for yourself the sort of fish in the lake. It was great to see all the bailiffs working with the fish on Saturday all I could hear was "wow thats a beauty" and "what a lovely fish - this ones a cracker." and the like.

Main Lake (Pleasure)
We plan to net the main lake some time in January to see what we have in there also. We are planning on doing it early January. I will keep you posted of dates as the main lake will have to close for a few days whilst we are doing this. The fly lake and the doughnut lake will be open as per usual. Can't wait to see that happens - I am getting excited just thinking about it. Silvers have been showing well to loose feed caster. Big perch have done well on feeder fished worms and red maggots. Bream are showing to the feeder with little super lake ground bait with caster and pinkies. Jack Jones of Barnoldswick had a great day early in the week with a 45lb bag plus of mixed silvers.

Main Lake (Carp)
The weather has been up and down all last week. Some days bright and sunny and others cold, wet and windy. The really serious carpers have been fishing at Pendle View. Tony Ashworth came to fish us early in the week and landed a nice common using a single fruity pop up boilie. The common was under 20lbs. Another angler called Mick Tomlinson from Bury caught a nice 13lb mirror on sweetcorn with a little bed of hemp and corn as free offerings. As you can see from above we will be netting the main lake early January so I will be able to report on what carp we have in our waters. I have had a few people ask if they can overnight with us over Christmas and the answer is yes. As you know we are closing for Christmas Day, but if you are on before Christmas Day and want to stay over - that is not a problem. The office will be closed so you will need to bring your Christmas tucker with you.

Fly Lake
Fly fishing has been excellent and the most successful flies have been Montanna, bloodworm and gold hares. A static retreive or a very slow figure of eight retreive has worked well. Brownies are showing well to the dry fly, a small midge or black spider. Here are the trout averages.

Monday 3.5
Tuesday 3.0
Wednesday 5.0
Thursday 2.4
Friday 5.0
Saturday 2.0
Sunday 3.0

GENERAL
Winter is a very busy time for us and we are busy doing all the jobs ready for next season. The bailiffs are on with putting anti slip surfaces on all the pegs on the Doughnut Lake at present. Work is still underway cutting back all the reeds around the main lake. I think the chaps are about three quarters of the way around the main lake.

CHRISTMAS
A special thank you to all those customers who have sent us a Christmas card. I have prepared about 500 christmas cards for you all. They are in the main office waiting for you. Quite a few anglers have collected theirs already. On the envelopes this year we have affixed to little chocolate bars. One is for you and the other is for the lady in your life.

Now then not long to go for Christmas so if you have someone who wants to buy you a Christmas present but is not sure what to get you ask them to simply ring our GIFT VOUCHER HOT LINE ON 01254 822208.....(sorry its just the office number ...but I got a bit carried away.

Well folks thats all for now....hope to see you on the banks. Don't forget this fishing report is also posted to our new web site www.pendleview.co.uk

best wishes
