Fishery news: With the very dry and hot weather conditions, water levels are falling dangerously low, add to this algae blooms and fisheries need to monitored closely, should members see fish in distress, this could be fluctuating dissolved oxygen levels due to algae, contact the Environment Agency as soon as possible, with the location of the water and then the club secretary, what ever the club!, as this action could save thousands of fish from dying.Having got that out of the way, Newton-le-Willows waters are all fishing very well. The Vulcan Reservoir is fishing well for skimmers, roach, perch, tench, small carp, crucians and Ide’s. maggot on the drop will do well on any Newton water, (Members Only). The yew Tree Reservoir is fishing well for silver fish Roach to well over the pound on the drop to caster or maggot with tench, carp up to well into double figures, nice beam and big perch are all giving sport here, (Members Only). The Sankey Canal, Upper Pound is fishing very well bream to 5lbs, tench, Carp to 26lbs, perch, roach, Ides, rudd and skimmers are all giving great sport. The Lower Pound is providing good sport with small carp to 7lbs, tench, bream, rudd, roach, Ide’s, Chub, eels and skimmers. Both these two sections are available on day ticket on the bank, £4-00 adult, £1-50 juniors. The Penkford Bridge section is fishing really well for roach, huge catches!! Plus tench, bream, brownies, perch, rudd, Common/ mirror carp with the odd Koi up into double figures, (Members Only). Haydock park farm is fishing well Cow hay Dam is producing good catches of silver fish along with some nice carp. The Lagoon is fishing well for large catches of rudd and roach, with some good bream, tench, perch and koi carp to 8lbs, (Members only). Sankey Brook is fishing with some good roach, and chub to 3lbs, dace, perch and carp, (Members Only). The Moat House Farm Fishery at Gorsey Lane Burtonwood is fishing very well for Ide’s, carp, chub, barbel, tench and silver fish. Tickets are £5-00 and £3-00 concessions. Tel: 07703254673. There are very few senior permits left at this time. The Wednesday Night Members Sweepstake 26-7-06,The match was fished on the Lower pound section of the Sankey Canal. The winner was Gordon Shorrocks fishing off peg 121, he caught tench, carp and roach for 2lbs-3ozs-8drms on long pole and caster.Second place went to Mick Rogers, on peg 123, with carp, tench , eels and skimmers on pole and maggot for 7-11-8. Third place fell to Raymond Shorrocks on peg 113, with a tench, small eel and roach for 2-9-4.Disabled & over Sixties members, weekly match, Thursday 27-7-06.The winner was Ray Bowden on peg 29, with 15-5-0 of small silver fish on pole and maggot. Second place went to Eddie Cook on peg 27, with a single tench and lots of silver fish on pole for 12-9-0. Third place went to John Ormershire fishing on peg 31 he had all small silver fish to maggot and pole for 9-11-0.
