Angling stars Matt Hayes and Mick Brown filmed at Llyn Y Gors for a day this week on the Match Lake for their up and coming series "The Greater Rod Race" to be shown on the Discovery Channel starting in December. The series requires Matt and Mick to catch 1lb of fish for every mile they travel across Ireland and the UK. Both stars willingly signed autographs for the site residents, local anglers and Llyn Y Gors shirts and a hat for our Children in Need event in September. With only 24 miles in hand when reaching us and high winds whipping across the lakes combined with spells of rain the pressure was really on the pair. The action was fast and furious at times, however you will have to see the programme for the outcome......![]() Matt Hayes and Mick Brown filming at Llyn Y Gors Our Cedar Lodge residents regularly fished the Match Lake this week turning in catches to 80lb on the pole. Barbel and Carp figured heavily falling to Dynamite 4mm Amino & Mainline Bloodworm soft hooker pellets along with sweetcorn, these 2 baits seem to be producing big bags recently. (Jack Patrick pictured). Also on the bait front we now stock the new Skinz, with 4mm, 8mm and 12mm coming in 1kg bags of feeder pellet and small bags of hook baits.Nick Slater our bait tester was in there like a shot and recommends them on the Pleasure and Match Lakes for Barbel and Chub also liking them. On the Pleasure Lake plenty of bags to 70lb plus. Carp to 10lb falling to 10mm Meaty Marine and CSL Boilie. Silver fish to feeder tactics and maggot also scoring. Soft hooker pellets and again Mainline Bloodworm Extract taking tench to 3lb and carp to 7lb. Darren Latham had his first and personal best with a lovely 1 3/4lb female tench falling to meat. The Old Carp Lake produced plenty of smaller fish this week. Arwyn Roberts from Llandegfan landed a 7lb and an 8lb mirror on a maggot clip and the other on a M&M's boilie thanks to Marc Ward, both fish from the Catfish Channel. Ed Fitzjohn landed a 17lb 6oz Catfish on the usual White Chocolate Boilies and fished at The Point.Gary Risley (Junior) 15 years old caught a 10lb common and an 8lb mirror from Rogers Swim both falling for Smartbaits CSL 10mm Boilies.Lewis Hamill fished with Gary and caught a 10lb 7oz Common (a new PB) and a 6lb mirror also falling to Smartbaits 10mm CSL. Thompsons Lake 14 year old Adam Greenwood showed what he's made of by catching a 23lb common from the Well on M&M 's and Imitation Corn, once again M&M's coming into their own league and showing that they produce good fish with the right tactics. This was Adams second consecutive 23lb fish from the lake the last being at Easter a mirror. |
