It's been an interesting summer for me tackle wise as I've managed to get my hands on various bits and pieces of end tackle from the Pallatrax stable. Like many specimen anglers I've long known about their excellent Stonze system and have also heard very good things about their baits for many years, but I have to say I was amazed at just how much else they do - hooks being a prime example!
I've always been a big believer in keeping things simple, and it's a philosophy that continues to serve me well during my carp angling endeavours, so whilst I own and use various types of hooks in my fishing I've found that I keep coming back to a small number of types and patterns that seem to give me the greatest levels of confidence and tend to put me the greatest number of fish on the bank.
Rather then have a million different hook types to suit every conceivable and inconceivable application, Pallatrax have themselves gone down the route of keeping things simple. Their Terminal Contact ‘Hook' was developed mainly to suit their Stonze system, but to be honest, their customer base have long found them ideal for countless applications, and having used them extensively myself over the last six months, I have to say I'm sold and as such, they've now found a permanent place in my tackle box. Whether it's stiff rigs, braid rigs, stalking, surface fishing or whatever else, I've had fish on them.
Perhaps of more importance though is the fact that despite countless protracted battles from bank and boat, they've never let me down once, and not even showed the slightest sign of wear and tear - never mind opening out! I've used them in all sizes from 4's to 16's, and they've come back in fantastic condition each time no matter what they've had to endure. They've been absolutely faultless so far and thus give me every reason to keep on using them!
The hooks remain incredibly sharp during use, so I don't get through them as quick as I do with some of my other hooks, which is always a welcome reprieve on the wallet, and I've found myself turning to them more and more of late without even thinking about it. That said, I've always been a fan of a short shank with straight eye and slightly inturned point, so these are right up my street!
There's no shortage of choice when it comes to carp hooks and sometimes that's the biggest problem - when you get swamped with options it can be easy to make the wrong decision, which again is what makes the hooks from Pallatrax a welcome breath of fresh air - all you have to do is choose your size!
Available in barbed or barbless, priced at around £3.25 per pack of ten.
