The depths vary according to the area of lake you fish from. It’s as little as 5 feet close in to the side down to 35 feet if you are ledgering or feeder fishing out in the middle. This is a pole angler’s perfect situation as fish are often caught on the shelves under the water at depths ranging from 6 to 18 feet which means that sometimes only one section of pole needs to be removed to land your fish.
The pool is well stocked with Bream, Roach, Perch, Crucian Carp, Tench, Rudd, Gudgeon, Carp and some large. Favoured baits include Maggot, Caster, Sweetcorn (mainly in warmer weather) Bread, Pellet, Luncheon Meat and Worm although other baits will continue to turn up some surprises.

Alternative access is provided for disabled members via the farm drive at the bottom of gudefield lane that is just over the iron bridge at knypersley reservoir at the bottom of the drive you will find a car park and a path that leads to the pool. G.A.A.C.took control of the pool in 2001 it then was in a neglected state overrun and overgrown with a very bad weed problem leaving only just 2 pegs fishable, after many work party's and man hours the pool was reformed back to life. A major restocking program went ahead and a hardcore path was laid. A bridge was built; this is now making the pool a very good fishing venue and the most relaxing place to spend your days fishing.
As previously mentioned, the stock of fish was increased in spring 2004 and 2005. The new fish were chub crusian carp skimmer bream tench and common and mirror carp. The new stock complements the old perfectly as the majority of fish are roach and bream with some large carp. They are not a bad size either considering the size of the pool, most roach being 4oz plus and bream averaging 3lb. Other fish that are present are numerous perch and gudgeon, mainly small with the occasional good perch and small pike and rudd and even the odd golden tench can also be caught .

The water is slightly off-square in shape with the deepest water at the North end, where anglers will find depths to approximately twelve-feet. The Southern bank provides the shallowest water with depths to around three feet. The gin clear water provides an excellent habitat and there is a large amount of natural food provided by the weed present throughout the summer months
The water contains an estimated twenty-five to thirty fish over the 20lb mark. The water has had several stockings of since 2005, the last saw approximately 350 carp between 1lb-20lb added. Regulars estimate the water holds around six fish over 25lb with the largest just over 27lb.
Fishing Controlled by Potteries Angling Society, Permits available from local tackle shops.
The lake can be split into 3 main sections. The first area is known as the Dam Wall Bay. With only 4 pegs in this area, it gives anglers the opportunity to cover a good amount of water. With depths to 14ft, this bay is the most popular area of the lake with many features to target, with the old measuring stick in the corner being the most popular swim. The bay does produce the majority of carp, especially in the summer as the carp seem to hold here. The second area is the main body of the lake. Holding most of the pegs and with depths to 26ft, this area is often overlooked. However, with a river bed and many BIG snags to go at, this section holds a good number of carp and with less pressure than the dam bay, it’s always a good area to target. The third section is known as the shallows. With depths to 12ft although the majority is up to 5ft, this is the least pressured area of the lake. Having said that, on a warm southerly wind, most of the lakes carp stock can be found here.
There are large carp present, many of which are over 20lb, with the biggest known as Big Linear. The current weight of this fish is around the 32lb mark depending on the time of year. These large carp are backed up by 80 young carp (5-10lb) stocked in late 2007. We hope these fish will very soon be well into double figures pushing for 20lb+.
Location- Greenway Bank Country Park, is between knypersley and Brown Edge. The easiest way to find it is leave Biddulph on the A527 southbound. Turn left towards Bemersley. Take the first left and the park is sign posted. Rules: No Night fishing, two rods, no nuts, other common sense rules

The pool is most definitely a mixed coarse fishery. There are massive shoals of small roach, gudgeon, and perch, which can be caught on the most basic of tackle, ideal for new comers to the sport. There are also big shoals of skimmer bream with the odd larger bream thrown in. The pool is also known for its tench fishing, producing some fish to over 6lb. The better carp have been caught to 24lb+, although the majority being between 7-14lb. These are backed up by around 600 small carp (stocked at average 1.75lb) which were introduced in late 2007.

The water has lots of dark ‘carpy’ bays and corners, open expanses, reed beds, shallows and shelves to target, all of which hold carp in numbers. Each of the 67 pegs is easily accessible, with most only a short walk from the car. Disabled anglers are considered with many pegs being adjacent to the wide paths and walkways which surround the site.
Local angler Matt Summers recently took carp of 20lb 7oz and 21lb 9oz along with several others in the same session to highlight what great catches can be accomplished.
For the ‘serious’ carper, 2007 saw the opening of Baden Hall’s newest lake designed to attract specimen hunters from across the country. Each of the 20 pegs provides a warm cabin, unhooking mat, weigh sling and landing net to protect the carp, of which the largest currently stands at 36lb 4oz! The fish in this lake are all hard fighting English fish which have been taken from stock and an estate lake in the South of England. All are pristine and, as all the lakes are securely bailliffed by Dave and Gavin, the owners fully intend to ensure that these fish are well worth catching.
The fishing covers roughly 20 acres of mature gravel pit. Stocked with 250-300 fish, at least 15 of which are over 30lb, with a high density of upper teens and 20lb carp, there is plenty to tempt visitors. Large weed and gravel beds, depths to 12 feet and loads of underwater features make this a water that requires some thought before the rewards are banked. Carp are tricked in various ways; fruity boilies over beds of bait and grubs on a maggot clip among the more successful. Due to the size of the quarry, a minimum mainline breaking strain of 15lb, and a hook of at least size 10 MUST be used. Baden Hall’s own website (www.badenhall.com) has some fantastic pictures of these superb carp.
Prices for 24 hours are £30 for 2 rods. Gates open 12-2pm, advance bookings are necessary as the gates are locked to maintain privacy and security. Pegs will be drawn to allow everyone a fair choice of swim.
As mentioned, the owner maintains this stunning fishery with the help of 2 bailliffs; Dave and Gavin both have qualifications and extensive knowledge of fishery management and are more than happy to pass on advice and tips to the newcomer. As well as checking licences, tickets and barbless hooks, they can also be found pottering around Baden Hall on mini tractors fitted with cool boxes to supply drinks and snacks at your peg!!
To get to Baden Hall, from the North, leave the M6 motorway at J15 then take the A519 signposted Eccleshall. Passing through Slindon, turn left towards Swynnerton then find the gates after 1 ½ miles on the right. From the South, from J14 M6, take the A5013 into Eccleshall. Follow the A519 Newcastle road. Just outside the village, turn right for Swynnerton; the gates are 1 ½ miles along this road on the right.
To summarise; for the carp angler, novice, beginner or expert; Baden Hall will certainly offer something for you. At only £10 pounds for 2 rods on the main lake, it is an inexpensive way to spend the day in peaceful, pleasant surroundings with only the scream of a bite alarm to remind you of the outstanding fishing. On the specimen pool, 24 hours will certainly give you the chance to bank that fish of a lifetime....or think of the ‘one that got away’!
