Wheelock AS was first formed in 1948, we are still a fairly small club in membership size however we aim to provide some of the best Specimen fishing in the North West of England, with Carp to mid 30’s, Catfish over 40lb along with double figure Tench and Bream. We also have a thriving Specimen Crucian Carp population in the Plex Flash. A couple of the lakes, Brereton and Baddiley Mere contain specimen Pike to over 20lb. So as you can see we cater for anglers who like to fish for bigger specimens. All of the Wheelock AS waters contain specimen carp to over 20lb, this gives the Members a great range of Carp fishing.
'All of the Wheelock AS waters contain specimen carp to over 20lb'
As a forward thinking club we are always on the look out for new waters to run and stock. The newest lakes we have acquired as a club are over at Baddiley and include an ancient Mere and an old Reservoir. These two lakes already have stocks of fish that have seen little pressure in recent years, however we have topped up the stocks with prime English Carp of various strains but mainly made up of the famous Fishers Pond strain of carp that we are sure will thrive. The last time the club stocked any of these fish was over at the clubs Cotton lakes and one of these fish is now into the mid 30’s!

Altrincham and district angling club was formed over fifty years ago during the days of the cane rod and early intrepid reels. Much has changed in the years that have followed with huge development in tackle technology, pressure on fish stocks, loss of habitats and of course the ever increasing pressure on ourselves. We firmly and honestly believe though that the fishing enjoyed during the formation of this club can still be had on the tranquil, under fished mere's, lakes, rivers and ponds controlled by it.

Back in 1954 a group of a dozen or so friends and match anglers regularly met at the Prince Albert Pub in Newton Street Macclesfield. In those days their fishing was confined to South Park Pool, the Macclesfield Canal , Rudyard Lake and Bosley Reservoir. They fished either on day tickets or as guests of of one of the big clubs of the day. Eventually one of their number, came up with the idea that they should form a team and club under the banner of the Prince Albert, although at that stage they could only fish matches and day ticket waters. This led to the idea that they should club together and rent a water of their own.
Their first opportunity was to acquire the Brick Pond on Barracks Lane, they each put in to the fund what they could afford and the deal went through and on 19th August 1954 the Prince Albert Angling Society was born. Over the subsequent years many other waters were added to the portfolio, Crabtree Moss was next followed by Birtles Old Hall, Irongates, the River Dane at Hulme Walfield Old Hall and Manor Farm at Middlewich and the Serpentine at Alderley Park. Prince Albert then became affiliated to County Palatine, Cheshire Anglers and Northwich and District Anglers. The rest has, as they say, passed into the history of angling.
The PAAS portfolio now boasts over 220 stunning waters!
From those humble beginnings the Prince Albert Angling Society has grown to be the largest and most successful fishing club in Europe today boasting a portfolio of over 220 waters, a membership of over 8,500 and a waiting list approaching 2000. The range of Prince Albert Waters varies from still waters, to rivers offering an excellent variety of species. All waters are extensive and offer fishing of unrivaled quality. The Prince Albert Angling Society now have over 230 stretches of water in the U.K, there are waters to suit everyone’s needs, Coarse, Game and Mixed Waters are available from the Cumbrian Esk in the North to the Wye at Ross on Wye in the South.
