right then petty pool
during the foot and mouth outbreak when most waters were closed, northwich took the decision to open petty during the close season, me and my mate barney had heard the rumours of big fish and having done capesthorne we didn't mind another day only water
we knew it wasn't going to be easy but we figured that being on there during the close for the first time ever it would tip things in our favour
well we figured wrong we started fishing the first week in april and fished right through until the end of october, 2 days or evenings a week minimum usually 3
our first and only run came to me in mid-september this small (for the water) mirror which weighed in at 14lb 12oz
after virtually 6 months of solid blanking you've no idea how pleased i was to see that fish in the bottom of my landing net my mate barney blanked completely despite both of us trying our ******** off
petty pool is without dought the hardest water i've ever fished in my life, its an absolute ****in ball breaker
don't get me wrong its got a good stock of big fish, you'll see that when you watch them hurling themselves out of the water on the far bank, unfortunately the fish know where their safe and they avoid naa's small stretch of bank like the plague!.
you have to be off at 10pm no matter what and the fish won't come over until after dark.
i still haven't got the place out of my system yet and i plan to go back one day but my confidence took such a battering on there i've not been near the place since
my advice for what its worth is to leave well alone until at least september, as the dark nights set in you get a few hours in after dark and this is when you stand a chance if i ever go back it will be during sept/oct and november for sure
incidently during our time on there we never saw another angler get a run either, it was quite busy with at least 5 anglers on every day even during the week too those fish simply stayed on the far bank and didn't move over at all
others have faired better than me and my mate, if your in the right place at the right time you could have the result of your life but be prepared to blank like you've never blanked before whilst waiting for it lol
i can't end this without mentioning the mossies, you get to some of the swims via wooden walkways because its very boggy and its a breeding ground for the little b***ards

i thought we failed badger, we didn't quite know what to expect regarding numbers of fish but we were expecting to see more than one between us and maybe a few other people land fish whilst we looked on

Had a sneaky peek the other day, just as another guy turned up in a peugeot 106 quicksilver (anyone?). My first viewing of the water, and my god it looks good. Was debating joining Northwich just for it, but think its out of my comfort zone at the mo. Th eone thing i did notice though, was it is VERY clear.

It will colour up once the fish really wake up and start grubbing and rooting about for their meals

One take in 6 months ... you want to take up golf brother ! If you go down there, speak to Tetley Pete's brother and ask him how to catch them ... it only took him 15 minutes on his first session to put a 27lb 4 on the bank

P.S the guy in the 106 is Squidda ( not sure if he posts on here ).

But how long did he then go for his next take. Some people the lake is very kind to for their first trip of two, then the blanks build up....and up....and up.
First trip, first fish in 15mins, fair to say the fish caught him, if however he banked half a dozen in say his next 10 trip then fair play he's got it sussed.......but i doubt it

Petty Pool, now theres a good one.I can remember no fishing at night but the baliffs did, when we all went home.Baliff rotas so you could never get on some pegs.Bait boats going out so far you couldnt see them.Anglers illegally fishing the far bank and to top it off, come back to your car damaged and broken in to.Two sessions on there was enough for me.Two coots caught by the way.

All that's gone now mate.Petty is a really sound place to fish, with a good group of regular lads ( who won't, despite the rumours scare you off the place ) and some stunning fish ( that are not that hard to catch IF you can get on them !!! ).
