carty NMFF Regular Anybody know if there are any decent size fish in Lymm Dam and has anybody fished it recently Link to Post - Back to Top 80.229.147.84 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- whogotmelighter NMFF Super Poster yes some good fish in the dam, tricky water tho due to the sheer size of the place, the end of the jettys on the church side is supposed to be good and also the snags right at the top end are supposed to be good. i've fished it on and off over the years only ever had bream tho, there are a few lads that have been on there for years and are very reluctant to give much away. i recon there are some big old monsters in there but i think you need to do loads of home work on there. there was a feature done in one of the mags a couple of years ago by the bloke from wigan(can't remember his name) he had one or to out. Link to Post - Back to Top 86.138.163.177 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chesh Global Moderator Neil SMith? he must have done it, another produce of wigan after Rugby, now carp fishing and Neil SMith !! nice bloke really though, had a chat with him on Shakerley mere when i used to walk my dog round there he ws doing a reccy for his article he wrote on that place! Link to Post - Back to Top 82.109.70.200 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- whogotmelighter NMFF Super Poster thats him chesh, cheers mate that was doin my head in!! is it still free fishing on there? « Last Edit: 14 Feb, 2006, 11:32 by whogotmelighter » Link to Post - Back to Top 86.138.163.177 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- carty NMFF Regular Yeah as far as I know its still free There's always a few guys fishing on there near the dam wall but I've never really had a serious go on there I've only ever seen fish showing in one area in on the church side and I've walked round there a 1000 times I might give it a go see if I can drag one of those monsters out Cheers Link to Post - Back to Top 199.67.203.133 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Danny NMFF Regular i thought lymm anglers owned it, didnt know it was free!! Link to Post - Back to Top 80.5.160.6 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- philo NMFF Regular Lymm used to have it BUT they lost it due to an arguement about litter!! Phil Link to Post - Back to Top 80.5.160.6 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Danny NMFF Regular http://www.warrington.gov.uk/enterta.../parks/lymm/#9 it is run by lymm angling, you can get a day tickets from the water bailiff who patrols regularly for £2.50. might give it ago this year! Phil « Last Edit: 14 Feb, 2006, 17:54 by philo » Link to Post - Back to Top 80.5.160.6 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- garethh NMFF Super Poster Lymm Anglers or Warrington Anglers defo don't have this place anymore. The lease is available for tenders up to the 22nd of this month. The tenderers for the lease have to agree to let limited day tickets on there plus a whole lot of other rules. I know people have approached warrington council to have a syndicate on there but its a no no. Need to be a registered fishing club. I've been told there's some nice cat fish in there. It's very silty though! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- paul41 NMFF Regular the last i heard about lymm dam is that lymm anglers gave it up because of repair/upkeep costs to the dam wall and the removal of silt from the lake, i do know that warrington AA were after the lease about 12months ago but i have not heard anything since. by the way did you you know that lymm dam was in one of Kevin maddocks books because of the cats, but to be honest knowing what some of the people are like around there i doubt if there is anything decent left in there now! Link to Post - Back to Top 213.104.248.16 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- stig NMFF Super Poster Last time i fished the place i thought the kennel club owned it due to the fact there are more bloody dogs around that lake then there are fish in it not to mention the damn rats sneakin up and leggin it with yer bait no matter what your using they eat it from worms halibut pellets - boilies dont matter what it is if you leave a bag full on the floor as its goin dark and go for a chat wityh the guy in the next swim for 20 mins or so the bagful will be long gone on your return + the lads who have done the time on there & have got results will not part with any info for love nor money.Well thats how it was a year or 2 ago & dont think for 1 minute things will have changed. « Last Edit: 15 Feb, 2006, 23:37 by stig » Link to Post - Back to Top 86.130.114.109 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- pjw NMFF Regular Lymm Angling Club relinquished the lease on the dam sometime during the past few years. Due to the amount of damage being caused to the banks, as the dam is open to the general public, the insurance for third party liability was probably the main reason. Remember in these days of litigation, any one falling down one of the steep banks would have been looking for quite a wedge in compensation. As for the size of the carp....there are some large fish in there, just have a walk round on a warm summers day and you should see them basking in the sun, easy to spot, well that is until you cast out, then they all seem to dissapear.
