Default Advice needed for an Astbury virgin

I was wondering if anyone could give me a clue as to what sort of depth Astbury is at short/medium range? I'm intending to do a spot of lure fishing there this autumn and winter, and very shallow water close in is not really ideal for what I am after.

I've not fished it before, but a quick peek on Google maps tends to suggest shallower water close in, with a defined shelf further out. This appears to particularly be the case on the north and east banks....... Or is this simply due to me reading too much detail into Google maps?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Cheers,

Mike.

i dont think u need to worry about shallow margins!

a short chuck from any peg will put you into a reasonable depth !

take some thigh waders and wonder out to the edge of the shelf (be careful though ) The water just drops away at this point at a steep gradient on most of the pegs. Never piked it myself but seen most pike just past the boat club or the west corner. Good luck

Had a few emails last winter from members who were having excellent results by walking the banks and chucking from each peg. Remember some excellent perch captures, with one area seeming to produce specimens on every cast!

I'll be going for a roving approach - a great way to get a feel for a new venue. I look forward to hopefully finding that perch spot too!

Thanks everyone for your advice above.

Mike.

Have a looksy around the ring of blue bouys... often seen shoals of perch there.... but to be honest the biguns were always seen alone !...id estimate them to be around the 3lb + mark

if you enter astbury at the park entrance, walk down to the water, the corner of the lake to your right is approx 50ft deep in the margins... deep enough?
