Default Slow day at Astbury

Hi all,

Just returned from a day at Astbury. Blanked I'm afraid. Nice sunny day but the northerly wind was flippin freezing!

This may not sound very PC but does anyone else out there hate swans?? The is a tribe of about twenty on Astbury and they delight in tweaking my lines every ten minutes. Even backleads don't slow em. Have you noticed how bold and aggressive they are, clambering up the bank and hissing at you .... and they don't even have a SOTAS book!

Cheers

The swans on Dod were a total mare, I found the best method of dealing with them was to entice them away from your swim and giv em some hemp of their own to feed on ,spread it out aswell cos it'll take them longer to finish. They weren't too much of a problem till the "who's the daddy" alpha swan flew into some power lines and fried.I sat and counted 50+ on there once, got bored and fell asleep tho.

you want to try the swans on booths theres only 2 of em but the water is so shallow they can see your bait no matter what you use and you are vertualy certain to get a pick up once in a session.

I take it your fishing the marsh or lazys then................at night the swans (and all other ducky things) on astbury dont like being hassled by laser pens............better than spooking the fish with rocks................

Default blasted swans!!!

I had that problem on Lazys in JAN, however went last week and I had no problem at all they were amongst me and did nothing! so I left them. However I was running around astbury last night and I noticed a guy and he come every night with a bucket of seeds and bread and feeds them. So when we turn up obviously the swan assume were gonna feed them!!

I was on the Lazys on this occasion. Don't think I've seen so may swans in one group. While I'm having a winge, the stainless steel beer barrel used as a buoy is also a flippin nuisance!

Interesting about the guy who brings buckets of seeds to feed these overfed seagulls every day!

On a more serious issue - when is Astbury gonna turn on??

Given the truly massive average depths down to 45ft plus and recent cold snaps,Water temps are very low. I wouldnt count on it for a while yet.Maybe a few stragglers will get caught when we get a couple of weeks of mild weather.Hopefully soon!

Have got painting to do etc. so doesn't look as though I'll miss anything for a week or two, keep the bait going in guys and get them feeding. If all goes well then they'll get their heads down during the first 2 weeks of June

Dont know why its never been a venue that has appealed to me at all. Still can see the potential in it.

POTENTIAL astbury will be one of the finest waters in the north west in time..........the speed of growth of fish in there is phenominal ! At the moment its probably the most underfished venue in the north west !
