Default A secret little water

Just discovered a secret little water about a 2minute walk over the fields from my house. I have asked the framer for permission to fish it which he kindly said yes to. He is hoping to get planning permission for it so he can release it as a new commercial fishery. The lake is about 3 to 4 acres and has hardly any features except for some lilies at one end. The lake holds a massive head of roach, skimmer bream, perch, chub, tench(big ones). And 8 original carp which go up to 23lb so i'm told. The carp have come from another lake the farmer owns that has been drained. These carp may have grown quite a bit now so i'm thinking of targeting them. Do you think it is realistic for me to go after these carp? If so how would you go about targeting them? Bear in mind these fish have never been caught.
any help appreciated,
Will

i would make up a biggish particle mix and prebait the place every other night for a fortnight put a few crushed and whole boilies in your mix and then i would fish it 2 rods i with a boilie the other with corn, maize or a big lobworm and see what happens . Alternatively i would just go down with a pint of maggots and some worms and fish it normally and see what happens then. Just spend some time on the place watching and fishing learn their habits and you wont go far wrong.

Thats what i would do im not saying its right or anyone else would do it my way its just a personal choice.Hope it helps
Its the way i have done it on unfished farm pools in the past and ive not gone far wrong.

Just go down and watch the fish .... or at least look for them. Then you will get a picture of where they hang out and where they will likely feed. As the weather warms up they will be more inclined to come in the edge and will be easy to spot if you have a pair of good polarised shades.

Just go and fish as you would normally . . . .location's the key, as with all fishing.

Don't worry about them never seeing a boilie before, don't make a jot of difference.

You jammy little sod. I'd be inclined to do as stig says, pre-bait a couple of spots every other day for a week or two just to get em used to finding a new food source without a line in sight, and then put a hookbait amongst em and watch those reels rip off

Great thanks for the info. I went down and had a look this afternoon, saw a carp next to some pads so i will bait up that spot for a few days and give it ago.

Try pre baitin' with tiger nuts every other night for a couple of weeks, not many at a time, a pound or so in a couple of spots, works a treat.

Depends on the carp i think Phil. The carp in the place i pre baited couldn't get enough of 'em. As a rule i dont put hardly any tigers in when fishing with them, but this water, they really responded well to a few.

Any update?

I'm interested to know how you've got on. There's nothing like the thrill ofa new water... especially if you're the only one on it!!

Been baiting it up for a bit now with half a kilo of mixed particles and some chopped up strawberry and icecream boilies per night . Will probably be fishing it at the weekend.
Tight lines
