Hi Luke

Used to fish the Bridgewater on the Runcorn and Warrington stretches years ago and did quite well at the time fishing boilies and pellet on the far margins. Biggest fish on these stretches went to 16/17lb with 20s being caught on other stretches.

They suffered a fish kill in recent years and many carp were found dead. Speak to Blankmaster on here as he knows a lot more than me regarding numbers dead and what may still be left in there!

Hope this helps and nice to meet ya on Capes!

hi luke

tbh i wouldnt bother fishing the canal anymore ,it may be different up near manchester but here in runcorn most of the fish died in the fish kill last year .
myself and a mate counted 150+ dead fish over a couple of mile of canal
the estimates put about at the time by certain angling clubs were much much lower than the actual body count
personally i would have thought this end of the canal there was a handful of fish left

Love the 'cut' .. couldnt get enough of it.. fish mobile .. keep a few spots baited (heavily) with boilies only .. keep dropoping on em till you start catching ...boats, wides , deeps with snags , water outlets ... GO lamping at night.. youll see where they are ... (4 million candle watt torch from Halfords .. 40 rips but worth it)

Shame about the fish deaths on the Bridgy the other year .. im a Runcorn lad who grew up fishin on there ...i was gutted when i heard ... but they will be back ..

Where do you live in Runcorn blankmaster ?

Me and a couple of mate fished all along from the waterloo bridge in the old town to up just before the marina village .. the old town always semmed to have smaller fish along its lengths ... the bigger ones always seemed to be from the barge , windmill hill and the 'sluice' stretchs.. mostly to mid double with odd upper double ..there were 3 known 20's .. a leather which got to 25 , a half linear also 25 top weight and a fish called scar ..23lb ...my mate coker had all 3 of these plus another 20 (unknown fish) ..apart from this they were all the same fish .. very few 'odd ones' were caught ...

We were lucky back then as the 'suice' at Norton village pumped hot water into the cut ... great in winter as you can imagine... its still pumps in water .. but its been cooled.. still a spot though ...

Heres the half linear wen i had it at 25 ... as far as i know its still the biggest caught off the Runcorn arm to this day ... lads told us of 30's , but we never saw anything near that big... we had nearly 80 fish between us that winter ... we doubled up quite a bit on em to .. did we catch the biggest there at the time .. ? .. yes i expect so .... but you never know ....

http://forum.fishingwarehouse.co.uk/...500&ppuser=344

Luke - Manc end and past warrington always had the bigger fish .... dont think it suffered as many deaths as down our way either ... go for it !!

Went for a walk over spike island (sankey canal) in widnes around new year ... 6 bivvies dotted along its length ..... a canal 30 is very nice prize , especially a north west one ..

Be lucky ..

hi stez

at the mo im on grangemoor but ive lived in the old town (2 mins from toplocks) and on greenbridge on castlefields (right by the s bend )tbh i didnt fish the s bend but know some lads who have of the estate one of em youll know for sure (paul bennet) know him ???

he had several 20,s of the s bend he shown me pictures of 5 or 6 different fish from there .i fished toplocks a lot when i lived close i had a load of fish from there best been around 16-17 like you say...

also fished the back of sea lane had a lot from that stretch when i lived in brookfield ave

fish the rezzy now and again for pike had a couple of 20,s from there when i lived on greenbridge still go now and again !!

we baited toplocks a lot as i lived close and your advice about baiting with boilies is spot on .it went off big at toplocks over prebaited spots 2 runs at once etc etc crazy fun fishing nothing massive but action all the same

ive walked the canal with the dog and going to work after the fish kill and tbh i havent seen ANY fish apart from the odd small common !!

sad innit ??

alright Blankmaster .. i think i know Paul .. if its the same lad he used to fish with Coker before he moved back to Liverpool...

As for the dead big fish ... i heard 20's were found .. and their big for the cut arent they ..?

The canal fish are generally slower growers .. but if a few decent fish have survived they could grow to be quite big .. a 30 wouldnt be out of the question .. the sankey has done it so the bridgy can too ..

yep paul knows coker

we seen a few bigger fish dead that i would have thought would have gone twenty ,but saying that at the time we did see some big fish alive still swimming around these were up by the sluice and beyond are fish count only went from the barge to the y section under the motorway we counted 150+ in that stretch alone didnt bother walikng towards the old town as we had already seen enough

really hope they do come back but im not holding my breath !
