can any one give me a little advice on a good runs venue around manchester or cheshire area. A venue with night fishing allowed would be great. i also am dying to catch a 20 can anyone tell me somewhere where i have a chance of gettin a twenty. I like the the sound of the swamp but i need exact location address etc if anyone had that i would be extremely greatful as it looks asif there are some stunning carp in there.

Also if i was too fish the Swamp what is the best tactic, Bait, Time of day, Peg,

Cheers lads any replys would be extremely appreciated

Alright mate, and Welcome to the site.
Yes the Swamp does have a good head of nice looking fish, however the surroundings can be, well, differnt

This time of year the weed can be a pain, as well as the noddy-anglers on.

Almost all pegs will produce fish as with its size and shape means the water is basically the same in most places.

Surface baits work well such as mixers, and you can generally see a fish or two in the upper-layers, so zig rigs can also be productive.

As for bottom baits, well boilies (both bottom baits and pop ups) work, as well as maggots and maize rigs.

It is more formally known as "Holden Lane Pool" in Stoke-On-Trent, and is controlled by Potteries.

Hope this helps.

Also check out the SOTAS waters (www.sotangling.com) Bolesworth Castle is a good runs water with a few twenties kicking around.

Jack,
where you located fella? You could do a lot worse than Sale Water Park at present mate if you're centrally located to Manchester, the serenity of Cheshire it aint but then again find me an inner city pond that is!

Currently a mere £38 a year,no stupid rules,4 thirty+ fish to go at plus daft amounts of twenties, and an onsite 'bailiff' (sic!) who literally lives on the place.

Just don't tell him fork all if you bag a few as he can't help but broadcast every detail of whats been coming out,how where and when (which is great if you are a Harry Ramsdens fan..in other words like having fish given to you on a plate!!!! Personally i'd prefer to do the graft and find the fish myself!)

The big uns come out regular too,the common has an appetite for grass i suspect as he's on the bank more than in the water!

Give it a look, jet ski's and windsurfers aside its really not as bad as many people will have you think...

Tight lines geezer

I fished sale in the early-mid 80,s cracking runs water then but all pasties with the odd low double. 20 years later I hear they have grown up a bit!! Saw my first ever boile on there, richworth tutties, amazing they are still going strong.

Used to get some belting runs off the windsurfers before back leads were thought up!

Yeah mate King Georges is still going an a great runs water it is too. It's 25 quid a year, speak too any of the baliffs on the bank. Nights are allowed an there's a few nice 20's in there too.

It's amazing what you hear, I was told by some bloke the fishing was rubbish, you needed chain-mail body armour and that they'd nick the milk out ya tea on Sale! Me thinks i was being put off slightly, mind you it worked 'cus i haven't been there yet, DOH!

Boggart Hole Clough, there are two pools, the main boating lake and a smaller pond next to it.The regulars used to fish the small pool with waggler and luncheon meat, thewould walk round the bank and cast to the bubbles, some decent fish in both. Situated up near Booths Hall Childrens Hospital.

King george v in altrincham is definatly still there although its a little tougher going now than it once was, last year was really slow and from speaking to some of the guys it was slow the season before aswell, there are certainly hundreds of carp in this pool of about 2 acres including a handfull of 20's (none of them pretty) but it receives constant presure with about 50 lines in every night during the warmer periods and it has plenty of natural food which the carp obviously perfer as only a couple of fish would see the bank most weekends

having said that, the place has a great atmosphere and i really enjoyed my time on there last year, the baliffs are very freindly as were all the other anglers i encountered and it is only £25 for a season
