Guys
Never thought id find myself asking this question but what is the best lake at Cudmore to carp fish and what are the best areas/tactics? Im taking a newcomer and he has been badgering me to take him there to get a bend in his rods for a few hours as it local and well stocked. What are the bait rules/rules as i believe its their own pellets and bollies etc- Any help would be very much appreciated as im taking him tommorow!!!!! |

Not a venue i carp fish but my club run a few matches up there now and again (last one was yesterday). I'm pretty sure all pools have matches on them at one point or another so don't go in all guns blazing as these fish do see a fair bit of pressure. I'd start with just fishing for a bite with small pva bags of pellet and/or the method. Yesterday, although not on the carpy'est of lakes, Arena, the fish shy'ed away from pellets on the pole and i landed 3 small carp on small method feeders with dead maggot on the hook. If i was targeting the bigger carp i'd have gone in with halibut pellet or a decent soft'ish boilee (maple8 for example) as well as maggots. There is a rule you have to use their bait but its a sure way of increasing the chances of a blank (although i'm not encouraging breaking the rules, you stating the best baits in my opinion) As for pools, I think tara or avoca are your best bet (but check at the cafe first incase they've moved the fish around again). To sum it up, fish for a bite and see how it goes from there. Having said all that, I could think of better waters to put a bend in my rod. Tight Lines

Thanks Julian
I had been onto their website and it looks like Avoca will be the lake we will be fishing ,just wondered if any one had any real experieces to share of the place? To be quite honest i wouldnt normally touch the place wth a barge pole but its a case of being forced to go their now. However a match angler freind assures me the standard of fishery is excellent so i will try and keep an open mind and also with over 400x carp i may consider it for the winter for some sport when the going gets tough elsewhere!!! |

Thanks Dan
To be honest im not that bothered for myself- my fishing is done elsewhere as i think you might have guessed however I work with kids and i am trying to encourage one in particular to ditch his roach pole for a carp rod and so its about the only time i get paid or will ever get paid to go fishing!!!-Method in my madness!!!! The last time we went i took him to Alsager Farm and although busy got sick of catching 2-5lb carp. The lad has got a fair bit of tackle now and knows the ropes so any suggestions would be great. |

The lad himself wants to fish a slightly bigger water thats all -his request not mine and as i have pointed out the days fishing is about him and not me, all i was asking was if anyone had any info they could share? It was not intended as a debate regarding my thoughts on small waters and as you have recalled my reply to one of your threads from months ago you will not need my thoughts repeating again, nor do i intend to. With regards to my PB as i have never disclosed it or talked about it on this board how would you possibly know? Then again PBs are very subjective these days but thats a different topic altogether and id be much happier discussing the subject intended rather than one id forgotten about months ago!. .....I just thought that the Bridgetts pool is an ideal starter water....plenty of action..just thought it would get him used to catching carp and handling them etc and for around a half the price of cudmore
