Default The Copse lake ( Stoney bash )

This is to all the guys who are booked up to go to yately on the stoney and friends bash. Ive been doing a bit of research into the copse lake which we will be fishing and what i found out was rather strange......

Couldnt find anything out for ages while i was looking except that the lake had been closed for some time whilest it was under re-development. Re-development i thought so i had a look on the RMC angling forum and had a look what the guys who fish there regularly were saying about the place. Apparently it needed a good tidy up with all the leaves from the trees collecting on the bottom, and just a general clean up, but what these guys were saying was that all the trees have been cut right back and the pool had been totally changed stock wise!!!! All of the original biggies have been taken out and put into the match lake and its been re-stocked with simmos and mainly doubles and some 20's!! They werent happy that it had lost all of its natural feeling and the fact that it was no more a known big fish water. Their views were that it had been stocked as a bit of a runs water to try and get people to come and fish the place more if they thought they were catching an original yately fish.
So i email'd yately angling and asked what had gone on with the place, got an email back from the fisheries manager confirming all of what i had read on the forum. That the lake had re-opened in june this year and the stocks 70 to 75 fish, averaging 15lb and a good head of 20's to 28lb. Fishing the margins is a good idea he said and it was by no means an easy water so the challenge is on fellas
It seems strange that such a big change has happened to such a place but im still looking forward to it non the less, and now we might even catch a few, whatever the size and whatever state we are in when we are reeling em in

See you all soon

I too had head about the tree cutting but belive me its nowere near as sevear as some have mad out infact some swims are too tight for 13ft rods as i found out when i fished it in march this yr.

yes the origonals have gone into the match lake and its not somthing i was too keen about but the place is being run as a buisness so i can see why its been done.

The fish fight like hell though and they are not too easy to catch not exactly a bobbins water imho

Asif they have done that!

Theyve basically just taken all the history from that water and got rid of it!

None the less im sure the place will still seem amazing!

Jonny, got an article in one of the mags from a month or so ago that gave you all the relevant info about the place - i'll let you have it next time I see you.

I'm still looking forward to it and the fish I'd seen pictures of looked stunning!
Apparantly there are some simoo's and some sutton fish.

hiya chaps !

right then been doing a bit of digin about the copse lake.. true they cut back the tree's etc.. main reason for this waqs because of the leaf matter.. taking up all th oxygen etc.. and generally running the lake downhill and quickly ! the decsion was made about 3 years ago to redevelop the copse, take out tree's and bushes to get much needed sunlight onto the water.. thus increasing nutrients etc.. in the past two years most of the big originals died sadly.. therews still a few that remain though.. a 28lb mirror/leather and two commons which apparently from a report/viewing only last week.. are both mid 30's

a lot of tha banck side vegitation has come back with new bushes planted etc.. it looks pukka (to coin a suven phrase) a fair few simmons have gone in and quite afew are being caught up to 27lb.. with the average being a high double!

the lake got quite weedy so they have treated it about 6-7 weeks ago and a lot of it has now gone.. leaving nice clear spots to set the traps

i cant wait for this weekend.. hope the sponsorship money is coming in chaps

As its weedy the old echo sounder on the boat is going to come in quite handy, was thinking of not taking it but i am if its weedy, dont you just hate fishing in weed , not knowing how or where your bait is lying is one of them things that never allows me to relax on the bank. See you all soon fellas, cant wait

Oh there will be plenty of room for beer mate dont you worry about that
Do you think 3 rods is a bit much then as its a smallish lake? Still bringing the boat along just in case, dont fancy sitting knotted up in weed all weekend, i hate the stuff I'd certainly be no good on TP, lol
