Jesus stig... I think your taking your administrator role a bit too serious pal...
The guy asked about a water and immediately the thread gets closed... By the sound of your reply your not even 100% sure that its no fishing with your (as far as i am aware)...
It probably is no fishing but surely people have the right to discuss the history of it etc on an open forum... Dont worry im not thinking of fishing it either.... have no idea where it is and dont really plan to...

'stig in the mud'... I hope it didnt take long to think of that Newbie.. Not quite a classsic line is it..

Anyway back on track...

The oulton Park was left to run its course... probably a bit to long.. Theres a thread on Alton Towers, thats no fishing but hasnt been closed... The mere golf club ran its course and thats just a few... This one gets a mention and is locked immediately..

Its a public forum and as long as its above board people people can talking about anything fishing related surely.. If people start going down the road like the Oulton topic or the mere golf topic then lock it but at least give these things a chance..

An Alternative is Debdale Resevoirs which are about 1 mile from Audenshaw and those can be and are legally fished and contain carp to 30. Theres a few posts if you do a search on them.

Right - lets not fly off the handle on this one. We're all for appropriate discussion on these forums. As you correctly state, some threads on 'private' waters tread the line of acceptability in this area, but are left. The mods keep an eye on things and, wherever possible, let things run their course.

What has happened is that one particular post was removed by Stig because it actively condoned (and provided advice on how to) go about fishing Audenshawe. The issue here is that, due to being a water supply reservoir, fishing here is not simply naughty or sneaky, it is (I think) illegal.

If someone were to post on here how to break into a car the post would be pulled instantly. Advising how to fish illegaly is no different.

Everyone using these forums must accept that the owner of these forums (i.e. Julian) is liable for whatever is written on here. If defamatory comments appear then Julian can have the book thrown at him. That is why the forums are moderated. Yes, it is a 'public' forum, but it is privately owned and operated.

In this instance (as far as I can see) no threads have beed deleted, or closed. People can still discuss Audenshaw if they chose to do so. If you are, please do so appropriately.

Mike.

I cannot believe that thread was locked, it smacks of traffic warden syndrome...

Also if you are going to take on the title of Administrator Stig then at least get the spelling correct...

its not a case of being gagged m8 , you have to be careful what you post because somethings could possibly cause repercussions for julian because as the owner the buck stops with him
members of this site use it for free and should be grateful of that fact , all the mods and admin do is try to stop certain things going too far because certain users are not bothered if the site gets in trouble or not !

Don't quite agree Pete, it's a great forum and personally I admire Julian's stance on politeness and not being offensive (I happily let my 10yr old lad view NMs) but at the end of the day to pull a thread because a water may have a fishing ban in place is just taking things a tad too far.

Hello

at the moment Audenshaw res. is being used by Debdale sailing club. It is NO longer a supply reservoir. You do need a recreational licence so I have emailed Tameside council to ask if that would cover fishing?

I expect a reply within 5 days.

regards john
