Debdale and fairfield can be fished for free Stiggy m8 (your on about the 3 Audenshaw resers) The old British water board built them (now UU).

The old m/cr city water works controlled/constructed debs and fairfield (they leased the rights to a few local clubs from time to time, but they all gave it back as being too hard to balif and catch.) Also have a walk round now the waters down 20ft or so and look at the size of the musslessomr 4ins long ,the place is full of naturals,Hundreds of big pike,4lb + perch but as i say HARD to locate /tempt,I fish penington quite a bit (though even bigger than both of these)10 times easier to catch, with carp about the same size.
but will be back "if the waters ever replaced".

As for stories (you can always enquire at the Diving school) corner of reddish lane and Hyde rd (opposite debdale park entrance hyde rd) about the CAT,

I have heard about the cat once or twice but just dismissed it as a big fish tale like you do but ive heard it from about 8 or 10 different souces now and the size etc never changes it is titanic for a uk moggie . The reason why i am now a believer is that you know how a 12 oz roach when it get about 5 peaple down the line has suddenly become a scraper 4 pounder . but everytime i have heared about the moggie its always been the same ish some say 6 and a half feet long and some say 6and a half to 7 and a half .

Used to fish the smaller resser as Debdale must be getting on 30 years ago now and then that was but due to numerous native uprisings and local battles we stopped going . Though natives of Manchester we were not natives of either Gorton ,Denton or Openshawe so our presence in the park was not wanted

30 years back it was dodgy for me (that age catagory) lads between 13 and 25 theres always some **** trying to be 10 men when he`s mob handed,
Being an openshaw scroat(i never had far to run for reinforcments).
The big moggie i seen on fairfield res was on the top viaduct/arch`s, near the old boating club,I was handlineing for pike off this with my livebait swimming through the arch`s,"the pike always flew out of these to intercept and fish".
and i seen it about the secong arch in,on the bottom about 10ft deep, big black and ugly,at first i thouht it was a frogman (just seen a war film on tv not long before) then i went to the other side of culvert and seen its backend sticking out.
I was made to give up fishing for nearly 20 years by the Dragon and being a compulsive "i wouldn`t even look at a mag" i completely blocked fishing out of my life,
Then 5 years back SHE said you need a different hobby as being a ****head wasn`t classed as a hobby ,she said why dont you take up fishing again,
BIG MISTAKE ,anyway after seeing a few photo`s from CASSIEN I seen some lads with a 200lb CATFISH, and instantly recognised that black thing all those years ago.

Think I'll get myself a shark rod and some rope and have a dabble next summer!!!lol Always hearing about this moggie-I've heard off two or three people but after reading this thread it seems that there is more to this cat and maybe-just maybe it may be as big as legend says-we shall see
