Id be getting an echo sounder and a boat out before chasing any rumours in there. Atleast that way you'd be getting an insight into what the depths are like what the bottoms like an hopefully weather theres lumps in there or not.
But I can imagien theres a few guys already on it?

Plenty of features to be had in there. The submerged railway line running straight across the middle of it shouldn't be too hard to pinpoint.

Mike.

i had a mate who fished it a year ago ( noody angler ) he was fishing a good 50 yards out two hours into the session two swans came along stood up in his swim and cleared out his bait so any body fishing the place has to do his home work first. good luck

You gotta be chucking well out on the plank lane and canal side,
have been told that there's gray pit shale for a good distance out with not much food in it.
I know a few lads who have fished it for the Bream and they say you need to be 80yards + at least to clear the gray pit shale. pity some of the margins look fair good.

Sure the AT archives would have a few pics of the Big fish send em us

And by the way.. if it was a North West record thathad been caught recently we would be talking over 46lb, wouldn't we?

In realistic terms, or in your case MONUMENTal terms 40lb North west fish are very thin on the ground.

...and very few have EVER grown to that size without (much) angler's bait.

A genuine 'home grown' 40+ from such a vast expanse of water would be an amazing capture though

... & if someone has banked an 'unknown' monster i wouldn't blame them for trying to keep it hush hush

julian cundiffe did a book on carp waters, back in the day! it descibes the flash as a small water, ( he relyed on sellman for the info i think!)
this small water was then joined up tp the flash to create what we see now, but it does give you a bit of an insite to the the original stocking!
whether this has been topped up since is anyones guess!
