If anyones thinking of digging a pond,go as big as you possibly can....you'll always wish you'd made it bigger.I would have dug the whole garden up if I could and even my hubby says now that we should have gone atleast twice the size.

You have other options open to you matey:
you can buy fencing that you put on a low voltage circuit to deter herons. They need to wade to catch fish and wont swoop down to take your stock mid flight.
or
you can insert canes at intervals around the pond and wrap fishing line round the perimeter and spider web stylee over the surface.

Thumbs up ponds

hi all
just looking at some of your great ponds, unfortunately having 2 small children i am not able to have another one yet,
i left one of the nicest ponds you could ever see in my last house. i transported the fish to my new house where i had them in big stroage tanks in the garage, after 12mnths i realised they would have to go to somebody elses pond.
anything to do with fish i love, we have fish in nearly every rooms in the house ,tropical, goldfish bowls, siameses fighter fish,
just waiting for my kids to grow up, and i am have the full monty in the garden.
keep puting the pics on i love em.
ps great koi pool jamie

Wayne,
Could you not make a built up pond ?? say 4-5 ft from ground level?

my pond is 7ft deep , with 4ft above ground level.

Along with pagola covering pond and Wall lights built into the pond walls and also in the roof looking down into the pond.

The reason my pond is above ground level is because of my little sister which needs to be safe for her.

Also ive noticed that if your koi pond is above ground level the fish wont spook from you as much if at all!! therefore making them tame.

hi jamie
thats what i am planing on doing, i have recently built a bird avary with a dwarf wall all around the base, this is where the ponds going as soon as i get the nod of the missus. i am just going to demolish the wood frame around the top, dig out a couple of foot, then take the last 3 bricks from the top and drop a liner in, then relay the 3 brick. hey presto!!!!!!!
then i will put a iron frame around the top.
your pool looks great, bet you have some filter system and uvs for that?
i used to get my koi from northern koi, the little garden centre near rixton,
they are very helpful.
hows the fishing going?
wayne
