!
you must have been addicted to the John Peel show in the early eighties mate, that list reads like a Peel show tracklist

on the subject of classic singles though I'd have to say 'New Rose' by The Damned, best song ever

have to agree with you there mate, amazing that a d.j. can make such an impression on so many peoples lives. I think that they should release a cd box set of the 'festive fiftys' from 79-84, where else would you hear a range of music going from Burning Spear + Big Youth through to Hawkwind and right up to Crass, Napalm Death and extreme noise terror, well... apart from my house that is....

and mine......Dave, do you recall any of the Welsh language bands from the early/mid 80's, Dap Bluggy...I know thats not how it was spelt, just how it sounded...just unearthed a load of cassettes full of old Peel progs...remember the tunes like yesterday it's often putting a name to them...Big Black, Triffids, King Sunny Ade, Tools You Can Trust, No Means No, Popguns, Renegade Soundwave, Orchids, Monochrome Set..ahh it all comes back to me... Recording off the radio with a hand held mike cellotaped to the speaker onto a mono tape deck, (10pm - 12 midnight in me bedroom) then editing down all the best tracks onto compliation tapes..crude but at the time the only way to get the music to keep..half the records you couldn't buy without access to a specialist importers and many were demo's sent into Peel himself.

Nice one going to Silverbirch and Dave re: the old Peel shows. Got a load of tapes in the cupboard going back years: UT, Half Man Half Biscuit, Joyce mcKinney Experience, Stump, The Wedding Present's Ukrainian sessions, the ubiquitous Fall, The Orb (before anyone knew who Alex Patterson was), Ivor Cutler, Viv Stanshall, Robert Wyatt etc etc etc

Currently listening to Thom Yorke's The Eraser, The Avalanches Since I Left You, Babyshambles Down in Albion and a blast from the past thanks to Soulseek...RDF's Wasteland and Hot on the Wire.

Long live Margrave of the Marshes!
