all top quality builders ..
i'd speak to all , and then visit as many as you can .
can be a pain due to the distance , but the process should make up your mind for you and the conversations will help the builder find exactly what you want .

i have a set by chris orme , and can say his work is quality .
he's about 5 hours drive away from the northwest though . this would discount him if i was buying now (i was down there at the time)
i wouldnt buy mail-order . defeats the object imho .

i personally went for mark tunley recentley

did a bit of research , spoke to a few on the phone and 1 in person

tried kev baines but he wouldnt answer the fone ...........

mark took the time to speak and more importantly listen to my requirements , and then made a recomendation to me which was pretty much what i was thinking anyway . the finished result is immaculate though , not a drop of varnish out of place and exactly what i asked for

beware though , its not a quick process , but worth the wait , i just need some decent weather to try it out now
Did you get one of MT's barbel rods stu?

Good things come to those who wait! Bit of a bonus really that bainsey ain't on the poll, as it means there's alot of people out there who won't put a lead where mine can go. Bainsey every time ;-)

Best way of looking at it is this way,
How many factory built rods or custom rods made on century , free spirit etc for sale second hand? Now more importantly, how many keV baines rods do you see on eBay or forums? People whi have them never seem to part with them. They may not be for everyone, but they're perfect for me :-)

Kev made me a pair of his 11ft Classics to suit my stature and short arms. Reels are only 16" up handle but I can cast better with them as arms work rod better. Ideal for my margin to middle fishing...not bad price either...320 a pair.

Thumbs up

I had 3 torrix done by one of them named in the poll and they cost over 700 quid, had them on the bank for 2 sessions and all the collars were loose, got mates on this forum that can vouch for this. Lets just say they were on ebay before you knew it. Lost about 400 quid on them but were happy to be shot of the rubbish. Now got some snipers off kevin baines at anglers workshop and there the best thing since slice bread in my opinion. Wish id gone in the first place , at least i no where i'll be going in the future, bainesy all the way
