Interesting thread this one.

Don't you think our clubs and enviroment agency should get their house in order first?

Clubs for exmple, Prince Albert Angling Society, one of the biggest and most well respected clubs in the UK. Extract from their rules,

"No coarse fish to be taken from any club water without committee authority excepting pike up to 8lb and 1 brace of grayling 12 inches or over".

This means any member, including polish, can kill and take as many pike up to 8lb as they like from any PAAS water day after day after day. Hard to believe PAAS have this rule, but check your permits members or the clubs website.

Enviroment Agency, as far as I am aware there are no regulations whatsoever regarding the killing and removal of carp and pike!, If there are please post them up. So if anyone is fishing a water where only a EA licence is required they can remove any carp or pike they like.

The EA and some clubs need to sort their regulations out and then enforce them!

I think most would agree that a stocking isn't the best thing for the water, it already has a great head of decent carp, pike and occassionally bream.

I think strong arm tactics would bother any discerning angler, i think that falls under rule 22 though?

22. The city councel reserves the right to remove any person for inappropriate behaviour. For example, causing nuisance to other anglers or behaving in such a way which might endanger themselves or others.

???

Or the addendum to the rules

4. Abuse of any kind, be it to a bailiff or another member will not be tolerated. Anyone found guilty of this will be expelled.

I wonder if dropping TC, putting his windows through after he lodged a complaint or hitting him again in the weeks that followed on the bank would amount to this?

Or.....drunkenly seizing items of tackle from smokey then falling into and subsequently breaking his bivvy?

I'd personal hit the club where it hurts should any of their elected representatives act on their behalf in this manner.
I'd persue legal action for damages and hopefully wessa would finally brought back into the hands of a club serious about it's future!

And, at the mention of drugs specifically - being a former police officer you can rest assured I'll not be getting stoned!

what about alcohol?

That is also covered under rule 12, or is this again a case of some aspects of 'rules' being seen to be more important than others and therefore ENFORCED accordingly?

It does mention, at the discretion of the club representative though-so in answer to the point smokey raised.

I think you're ok if you're stood with the right crowd!

One of my mates workes at A&E in Macclesfield hospital, one night a middle age POLISH guy comes in with seviour cuts to boat his hands and wrists when they where asking questions on why he had come about his wounds he admitted that he was taking pike from a local water when one got the better of him thashed about abit and cut his hands and wrists up.

As my mate is a very keen pike angler he phoned up the Enviroment Angency and told them what had happened. As it turned out the EA came to the hospital and arrested him for doing it under one of there new laws the now have.

Personall i think its funny in a crul sort of way as the fish get its own back and swims of back into the depths yet again

The EA would not have gone to the hospital to arrest him. They have no powers to do so! As has been said already, if he had a rod licence he is doing nothing wrong legally

Default pike

I live just round the corner of the manchester cut. There is a pole who fishes there about once a fortnite with 6 rods (I say rods, the ones u can buy in a junior fishin kit from argos) everthin he catches goes home for tea. The canal is litterally 20ft at the side of the pub where we drink. Loads of my mates (no fishers) have told me that everthin he catches nver goes back. Allthough I'm not a pike angler I hate the killing of any fish (including trout or salmon)

Have you ever reported him when you have seen him there?
6 rods is illegal no matter how many licences he has
