i was accompanying my uncle on edgeley resser once and there was this 'mini' chav with a gun... it looked like a super soaker all bright and plasticky and he pushed a float in the end then pulled the trigga and it shot the float out about 6 foot !! I had a look at it and th float was like a medium size pike float and the hook was about a 10!! he had a single maggot on and was walking round the resser like rambo!! click click boom 2 minutes in the water and off he went click click boom. NOT GOOD

Good idea how about an E.A. standards similar to the British standards kite mark. The EA already have the say so on keep nets regarding length diameter and mesh type etc so surely this could be extended to other irems of fishing tackle . For instance IMHO it should not be left up to the club or fishery owner insisting on all those anglers who are fishing for carp must have an unhooking mat i use my unhooking mat for pike as well other species (tench ,bream etc) and it should be an E.A. rule or Bylaw all anglers targeting specimen fish should use both an unhooking mat and also be in possession of a set up specimen landing net Plus have relevant unhooking tools with them to suit whatever fish they may be targeting . Years ago i can remember a young teenager(12,13 or poss 14 ) carrying a 6oz roach 5 swims to the next angler which was me on Poynton pool and asking me if i had a disgorger a had a few in my box so i handed him one and told him he could keep it but he did not have a clue how to use the bloody thing .So i unhooked his roach and let it go and he sat next to me while i caught 5 or 6 more fish and i showed him again then when he had unhooked the next 4 or 5 for me he strolled back to his swim with he prize which i heard him bragging to his mates about his disgorger which that bloke down there had given him ...lol . I think back then disgorgers were about 12 or 15 pence well less than 20 pence anyway . My way of thinking is which is also the same way most if not all of you think is that no matter what species of fish it is wether it be a half pound roach ,perch ,6lb tench or a 20lb carp i treat them all with the utmost respect and do my best to send them back whence they came non the worse or with as little to show for being caught ![]() ![]() ![]()

Same set up in the one in Stretford near me go and ask about the gear ratio of the reels or the test curve of the rod at the counter it's funny as f**k

Totally agree with all that's been said on this thread previously.
However, how many of you started out fishing on anything like the gear you own now? I know I didn't. I had the choice of a 5ft or 6ft rod, a crappy old centre pin and a sandwich box with floats, hooks, weights and disgorger. Maybe it's a question of affordability for some, what's the point of buying your little cherubs "the best" kit to start with only for them to lose interest 5 minutes later. I'm sure these items are mainly aimed at children with their pocket money. Although I could be wrong. Just a different point of view. There's also this to consider (see link below). If the people who are making top quality gear can't get it right, what chance have the rest got??? Best and Worst

The final mile sprint to get the "best pegs". Climbing the gates at Platt Fields to get in... don't think I'd even contemplate that now... Young, foolish and totally oblivious to any danger. Almost brings a tear to my eye. As for the tackle items, don't forget you're a bit older than me ![]() ![]() ![]()

my gran thought she would buy that whole wall of stuff and give it to me. it is the worst stuff i have ever seen the floats are made of thin plastic which breaks every time you have a fish and the line snaps line cotton. the worst thing you could possible give a begginer is that
