My mate does a bit for pike and predator and he's up there all the time. he fishes of his boat on windermere and has had them to 29lb. just spoke to him then and he told me that a 31lb'er came off the bank on windermere last weekend but thats about all the info i've got. pike heads are as secret squirrel as carp heads if not more!

Default Grassmere

Grassmere i would say would be the best starter , the other lakes, Windermere, Ulswater etc unless you know what you are doing and where to fish would just be almost impossible- for example alot of fish are caught trolling at 40 ft + in 100+ ft of water!!!!

Grasmere is a good size , it can be bank or boat fished, tickets are obtained daily from the post office and it has some very good fish in- regarded as one of the best up and coming waters up there.

If you need any more info let me know , i have been to all of the lakes and spent a fair bit of time up there.

Plenty of info here, including useful maps of Rydal/Grassmere (with 'hot spots' and 'drop offs' labelled). I've had a days roving lure fishing up there and a walk around Rydal and bits of Grassmere made a very enjoyable day out.

lakedistrictfishing.net

Click on 'coarse' in the horizontal grey box just below the main banner and see what you find. They also sell day tickets over the internet, which can be useful if you are planning an early start.

Mike.

Coniston Lake- Good fishing from the bank on the east side of the lake and its free fishing. Park up in machilles coppice car park and fish from the bank there.

Grassmere Lake- Good fishing again from the bank again fish the far side of the lake not the roadside as it gets hammered. Tickets from post office or carlsons fishing tackle shop in kendal or the petrol garage just outside of kendal (bottom of big hill)

Rydal lake- not fished this lake it is slightly smaller but i hear good reports of mid dble's being caught. get tickets for it from the above shops.

Windermere Lake- A better chance of catching from the boat but you still catch from the bank, had em upto 18lb from the bank here no monster but good fun on a cold day.

Get yourself to carlsons fishing tackle shop in kendal tell you all you need to know mate

Great piking in the lakes i bagged my PB from Windermere a few years ago from very close to Ambleside but i have found it's best from a boat if you can put you hands on one

I seem to remember lure fishing that area waiting quite a while for my lure to find the bottom

It is quite close to one of the parking spots (is that why you've chosen it) but don't rely on there being a space available as it is quite a small layby.

Would recommend taking a bit of spare gear too, as I found a few snags (probably rocks) on Grassmere.

Hope you enjoy your exploring though. I've really enjoyed my (sadly limited) fishing in the lakes as it always has that element of the unknown about it as you're on such a huge expanse of water. If you do hook something, get ready. I hooked a fish on Rydal water that nearly made my knuckles bleed

Let us know how you get on.

Mike.

Great info guys,

Might also be worth dropping Bigted a PM, Rob.

That's his old neck of the woods and I know he used to do a fair bit of piking.

Cheers...

J

Grassmere and Rydal water also offer excellent fishing no shortage of pike in either
