better as the water temp warms up so spring, summer + into autumn, not to say that you won`t catch one in winter though.but as rainey says captures tail off as temps drop.same as carp really so who knows, years ago they said you could`nt catch a carp in the winter!.the answer is simply get out there and try if your up for a challenge.

Im defo always up for a challenge ... I am that much up for a challenge I fished a lake few years ago ... That my mate played a prank on me and told me it was good fishing in winter but not many ppl fish there so I went and set up for a week and after the 2nd day some bloke walked round and told me there was no carp in there and I laughed at him and the week went by and not a run not even a liner.

I rang my maye and told him and he was in tears with laughter and he told me me it got netted the year before ... I felt like crying .. ha

Before Mr Walker called his 44lb record many people said big carp could not be caught full stop no matter if it was spring , summer autumn or winter. Just lately in my case i think they were right ..lol

Cats are rare during the winter months. They do seem to prefer the warmer months. When I lived in Bedfordshire I often fished on some of the original catfish waters. During the summer months the boilie fishing carp anglers would catch loads, often more than the catfish anglers. In the winter, even with bait going in and people still fishing, a catfish capture was a rare event. It does happen, but, not very often.
If I was to try during the winter it would have to be on a very heavily stocked water. If they do feed, the chances are it will not be for long periods.

i fished a north west cat water the year before last and after the first frosts most of the cat anglers moved onto carp waters, they can and do feed in winter but only after a warm spell and being the lazy fussy pussies that they are you have got to ask your self if its worth fishing for them in winter

Theres loads of cats around where I live.
All you do is wait until you hear it rummaging inside the bin bag, run out and bag it.
I know illegally moving cats is wrong but take it fishing with you and let it go.
Takes a few weeks before it finds its way home.
