This is a weird one.

For years I wanted to do some eel fishing but for some strange reasons there are no recognised eel waters in S-O-T. Everywhere else they seem to be present in pest proportions!!!

I've only ever caught two and they were by accident. One at Crosemere and one at Patshull Church Pool.

I'd love a bash at some big eels. Apparently there are two tiny pools, one in Wem and one in Ellesmere that both contain 7lbers. But both are locals only.

I must admit I go all soft when I hook an eel and don't even want to touch them

I just do not like their slimyness and resemblance of snakes

Each to their own though ....

I live and work in Chester and walk along the canal into town quite often on my lunch break. Every now and then I (unfortunately) see the odd dead eel floating around. The odd boot lace, naturally, but there are some in there that are (were?!) something a bit special.

Quite frankly it scares me just how big some of the eels in that canal must be. I've seen dead ones 4 or 5 inches diameter. No idea what that equates to in weight, other than rather a lot! (BTW they had the head to match - they were not litle ones that have bloated when dead).

Mike.

I agree mate one of the only things i am "scared" of is snakes and they are just to similar, they make my skin crawl, i got told that if you catch one you should just cut the line near the hook as there organs are very near there mouth and are easily injusred dunno how true it is tho.
