Default Trip out after the ladies..

All,

Picture the scene.. a long drive through the night to Hampshire, in january.. a freezing cold morning.. frost everywhere.. and the chance of some grayling!

a few seasons ago i had the chance to go and fish the river Test in hampshire for the day after Grayling and chub.. sadly there were no chub but the grayling form was awesome.. in the chalk streams etc.. trotting down a chubber float on the centre pin etc...

I was wondering if i looked into booking the day.. (its about £30each with food) who would be up for it? i cant tell you what it was like hooking grayling up to 1lb.. sea trout to 2lb and a few rainbows up to 2lb and a couple of chalk stream gudgeon.. memorable to say the least

If anyone knows of any streams more local that you can catch grayling in.. a NWC grayling day in the winter would be spot on!

your thoughts....

Not sure if you can fish it still, but there's a small stream on the Adlington Hall Estate in Macclesfield.... I used to go there back in the early 90's and catch loads of grayling, chub, roach and rainbows..... You could literally ****** over the stream, it was that small, but the fish in there were massive.... I had lots of 2 lb+ roach and 1 lb+ grayling, and a few keeper trout too!! Would love to go back there one day!

The River Dean, beautiful little river. One of the clubs I'm in have just release their fishing rights of a nice stretch back to the Adlington Estate, t0ssers.

I recall there's a day ticket stretch somewhere around Woodford.

Yep, cracking Grayling water a few years back.

We fished it from Adlington hall, down past the Deanwater hotel at Woodford and it was good fishing all the way. Some good fish around 2lb as well.

I mentioned it to a Grayling club rep at Peover game fair one year.

"Never heard of it, do you mean the Teme ?"

Well their loss was some one elses gain, methinks

Them were the days remember that bloke who thought i was young Grinthorpe or some name like that and how i was going to get a sound thrashing off my father for poaching the river when he went to tell him later that day poor old young Grinthorpe must have got a sound thrashing for my sins ..lol
That was the morning before the night in that shed in sub zero conditions at Springwood with only one can of royal game soup between 4 of us if i remember rightly didn't we go on the river after live bait
Mind you that was about 23 years ago

Both the Dean and the Bollin are good for Grayling

Just a few pics from the bridge with my phone this morning on my way out will get some better ones soon

I remember the game keeper driving straight thru hedges, to try and cut us off one afternoon

Fortunately your old triumph toledo evaded the trap ..... But it was close

Grayling fishing, dodgy pastime
