Default Bream Patrol Routes

Location - the key to banking a few biggies.

Bream tend to follow clearly defined routes and you can often set your watch by them. One shoal of large bream certainly appear at the Pines swims at about 11.30 pm. like clockwork.
A number of big fish pass the Spinney heading for the Duck pond at 3-4 a.m. and a number of smaller class fish roll most of the time on the right hand side (towards the yellow bouy) off the 4th peg from the roadside going towards the Pines.
I imagine there will be a large number of different shoals with various class sizes on Redes patrolling any number of, probabley looped and continuous paths, usually on a depth contour that may roughly follow the bottom of a shelf or other feature (unless, of course they travel along a line then return the way they came!) My instincts tell me that bream, graze like a herd of cows all along the route rather than reach a 'refreshment' spot. If you could see under water there would be clear paths free from the filamentous weed growth marking out the lanes they move along.

Do any of you carp guys who are catching a few know or are happy to divulge, which part of the lake or which swims have thrown up the 12 -14lb+ fish?? Or any particular time of day or night they tend to be caught. I am sure they will have a predictable pattern, unless they become solitary or more nomadic as they get older when the shoal size drops to perhaps 2 - 6 fish.

Or do the big ones latch onto a group of smaller fish and tag along, letting them feed first before they are tempted to sample a few morsels. Like the bigger carp that are shadowed by their ''food taster's''

All thoughts appreciated.

Like you say i also think bream graze all the way round the drop off in a lake until they come across i big bed of bate and then they stop grazing and mooching and get their heads down for a feast its just a put a big bed of bait out and sit on it and wait they shoild come along sooner or later

Stig,
I nearly fished the Duck pond on your advice on Friday night but bottled it.
Mainly due to the coots n moorhens feeding so avidly all over that end, surely they must snaffle the hookbaits, with all the hassle that entails, let alone a hook up with a swan. Might fish it sunday (tonight) and / or monday night but fancy a go at the two pegs after the Spinney. See when I get there.

Thanx for the PM Bet.

It looked real good this morning but i decided to go on Capes main lake and in doing so shot myself in the foot as there was some sort of classic car rally on so loads of people roaming all over the place + the usual ramblers and doggers so i packed up and came home .
The key to the duck pond is getting your bait carpet in b4 the coots and ducks get out of their beds or wherever they sleep then they dont see it go in so its usually ok then

Bet there's a few crafty carp following them feeding on the left overs. Single hookbaits .................
