Default Mono Hooklinks

Dear Coarse Fishing brothers!

I come to you for help leaving myself wide open to the inevitable ridecule and general mickey taking!

What am I talking about? well lets just say that my fishing usually involves using small spherical objects called "boilies" and coated hooklinks so it may seem unusual for me to post a thread in the coarse section.

But my question is simple, I want to use mono hooklinks for my carp fishing next year, somewhere in the region of 10lb breaking strain (tow rope to you guys!) and I was wondering which is the better between Shimano Antarres silk shock or Ultegra silk shock?

Cheers CYPRY

I find it very hard to get hold of these days but whenever i can i use Bayer perlon when coarse fishing and the usual sensor when carping . However for a non braid hooklink i would use flurocarbon there are plenty of quality versions of which about

There's quite a bit to think about here, if your using braid and you fish a mono hook link I'd be very careful. You'll have to choose something with a bit of give. A lot of the hooklink material now has vitually no stretch as it's fished on the pole and the elastic acts as a shock absorber, hence why the diameters are so thin.

Also if it says it's 10lb breaking strain.... it is.

I've been using some fox stuff, can't remember what the branded name is but a 6lb line is equivalent in diameter to something about 3lbs. I've never used it when I've fished a feeder or bomb but I'd imagine you'd have to be very careful on the strike.

Thanks for the reponses guys.
Funny maxima is mentioned as I have a spool of 10lb chameleon in my tackle bag and although I I've not used it as a hooklink before I quite like the look of it. I've not considered bayer perlon but noticed Stapely stock it in there coarse section so I'll take a closer look.
And lastly drynetter thanks for that thought, the two types I mention are both very low stretch and therefore there use might need some more thought.
Cheers

Maxima is a good hooklength material but it's got the same qualities as elastic. Grab hold of a piece about a foot and a half long and see how far you can stretch it. I'd imagine it would be very forgiving especially under the rod tip if you had a lump on???

I've only ever used it as a hooklength when bagging up on Bream in Ireland... 6lb main with a 4 hooklength. By the end of the sessions we had we were more or less dragging the fish in. Don't think we lost any to hooklengths failing.

It may be the way to go, but it's not the thinnest diameter. Cheap as chips though.

XT is awesome and awesome value too...14lb for heavy carping, 10lb for barbel and lighter carp fishing.

I have never tried flourocarbon but that Carp r Us flourocarbon looks pretty good. Apparently you can screw it into a tiny ball but it will still open out straight again......any feedback on this lads?

...another vote for XT

- used it in 10lb for years in 'open water' situations & winter, i think i'm right in saying that in the Tackle Box 'line tests' it to break at 19lb (!)

Also started using Pro Gold more recently in 12 / 15lb - very impressed with it so far

Suffix soft touch, for barbel and carp in 15lb. Is about £3 or £4 for 20 metres.
Can get in 12lb, not sure about 10 though. Is a nice weed green colour.

Have used fluorocarbons but only in clear, open water.
