Thumbs down Gutted...

Global warming, don't make me laugh.

I've been looking forward to a trip out on the River for a while now and have fiinally got a pass to go. Even with the heavy rainfall of the week, I was still hopeful.

However after a very quick recce earlier on I'm not bothering. I think even the most hardy would give this on a miss. I doubt there's enough lead left on the local church roof to hold bottom. So it looks like my new targetted quarry will have to wait.

Seem to remember a few years ago at about the same time of year when it rained and rained and rained some more making the rivers unfishable for what seemed like months. If I don't get on one soon I'm not going to be responsible for my actions.

Another couple of hours on my local beckons, I'm hardly that up for it, but I suppose it's bank time.

If I go expect a less than upbeat report, however there's a couple of lads who've told me there's a rather large pike hanging around in one of the corners, so I may have a crack at that. That'll make for an interesting change if only I can find the wire traces that were 'carefully' put away a while ago

For all those out on the bank tomorrow, good luck and tight lines...

Was hoping to be on the river tomorrow myself, same thoughts and can't really motivate myself to go now.

Even a day on Capesthorne doesn't sound appealing and can't be bothered to get the tackle ready

If only... I'd rather blank on there than suffer the chavs and chavettes where I go.

I have sort of got to know a few of them on there and I don't suppose they're that bad. Language is choice to say the least but I think we're all prone to that when not on the forum.

Most of my fishing is done on my own anyway, so I try and grab the limited time I get with both hands.

If you fancy some company on your sortie's out at the start of next season Russ give me a shout, Macc isn't that far away and even if the fishing's not great they'd be time for some banter. It'd be nice to meet up with some of the Monkey's on here and put faces to names.

Not been posting for too long and barring one mis hap everyone seems to be genuinely friendly. It's certainly not a 'closed shop'. One fellow forumista has given me some invaluable advice and even sent me some shots of his rigs etc. I doubt that would happen on the bank too much.

All in all really pleased I came on board, just wished I'd done it a long time ago.

Well done to Julian and all of the people behind the scenes/screens that make the site what it is.

Sharing what you've learnt in the past is what it's all about, otherwise no-one would end up catching at all. I'm no expert on the matter anyway, just chop and change to see what works the best.

I've got to admit that I learnt a helluva lot of my cousin, he seems to be on a different planet to most other anglers, but he's learnt that kind of thinking off his dad who no slouch on the bank even at 70+.

One instance as an example, we fished Combs when the weather was very much like it is now, rain, rain, rain etc... the water had come up alot overnight, fished from the trout stream bank. Got there and set up. First thing out of my bag was the feeder rod, turned round to see him and he'd got the top four of his pole out. He proceeded to batter the roach, and some good uns too. His philosophy... the fish follow the water up the bank and fed off the spiders and other insects. Thats something I just wouldn't have thought of at the time. Needless to say the feeder rod went away and I started catching in the grass too.

Small things that often make a difference between a good day and not. But if I'd been out on my own that wouldn't have even crossed my mind.

It's a learning curve all the time, nobody ever gets to the top of it, it just how you apply yourself.

very true words m8 and thats why ive managed to get my best m8 into the club im in , he can fish next year ,
he is a coarse/fly angler but ive got him into a bit of carping and he loves it !
hopefully next year he will be able to show me the ropes on his area of expertise, and im looking forward to it because this year ive took my 11 year old lad with me doing a bit of floatfishing and piking and ive realised how much i enjoyed it so rather than be a one trick pony i want to try and vary it a bit next year !

I'll get crucified for this but... I've never really understood the argument for stepping up to carp fishing (bearing in mind that the site is predominantly focussed on the said species). There's just too much else to go at.

Admittedly you're never going to get a forty plus roach, but if you get something over 2-21/2lbs...??? Anything over 3 and you're joining a very short list. Nobody really seems to want to fish for them anymore.

On a slightly different tack, even the national match fishing team are struggling a bit now as there more used to fishing for carp. Don't quote me on this but I think they may have come third in the last championships.

Last weeks Anglers Mail is going on about someone trying to set a match record in 5 or 6 hours (can't remember which). In excess of 600lbs of carp using 4 keepnets. Surely that's not taking the sport forward?

when i was younger i always coarse fished then had a break for about 10 or 12 years , a m8 introduced me to carping and i was hooked .
i started taking my sons with me and although they really enjoyed the buzz of carping i felt they were missing out so i got a little bit of coarse gear and my youngest kept going on how hed caught 30 odd roach and bream etc the first time .
since then ive had a dabble myself including a bit of piking and realised how much i was actually missing out on FISHING , that is why now my m8 is joining the club im in i intend to defo vary my fishing next year and ive fancied hitting the rivers for a couple of years now .
my first love is definitely carp fishing but i want to try other things and you never know some aspects might rub off into my carping !

There's definitely some things that do go 'cross platform'. Carp fishing has kinda revolutionised the way people target other species, what with simple things such as hair rigs to all the weird and wonderful ways to present a bait.

I've got to say though I still find it hard to get my head round fishing bait that's not attached to the hook (on the actual hook). It works though obviously. Whoever thought of that must have originally had some very strange looks. How would you come up with an idea like that in the first place? Now I think you'd be hard pressed to find many who don't adopt it some form or another.

true m8 and after a long break from the sport it was a carp fisherman that got me back into it !
the last couple of years ive been getting itchy feet with my fishing and thats what made me realise i had to try other things .
what confirmed it for me was last year my son was 10 and he caught a 3lb jack pike fair and square in the scissors on single maggot !
now that is something ive never done !

Variety = spice of life.

Unfortunately there's so much to learn and just not enough time to do it in.

Someone was telling me recently they'd caught a pike on a boilie... as the story unfolded, it was on the retieve You'll not get that too often either.

Good to see you've got your lad involved, fishing buddy for the future. Those times will be even more special. Wait til he's showing you a thing or two
