Default Eels around the Crewe & Nantwich area

Any lads know where there is any decent eel fishing in this area. I'm not talking about waiting days on end for a big 'un but rather somewhere where I can catch a few in a short sesh no matter how big.

A lad at work suggests the river in Nantwich town centre but I'm not sure how reliable he is.

Thanks in advance.

Try your local canal. I've seen a few dead whoppers floating around in the canal in Chester over the years and have heard of a few lumps being caught too.

Have heard of one or two from Winterley a while ago, near the stream both times. Doubt they're easy though.

Cheers fellas, it will have to be day ticket or free fishing because it may be for a couple of sessions at most.

Who runs this canal stretch, and what stretch of the Weaver do you reccommend Bl4cky?

I'm going to take one for eating (one of the reasons for going), I've never tried eel but it is supposed to be very nice, healthy too.

Well seriously think about what that fish swam through before it got to wherever it has chosen to live . Wouldnt touch one out of the Weaver . I grew up on the banks of the mersey and i wouldnt eat anything that had ever been in there .Dont care how clean it is these days there must still be pockets of sediment left

Try the Dee Crewe aint to far from Chester

Cheers Big Dave that free fishing sounds right up my street...

Stig...all fish contain traces of pollution (mainly heavy metals)i n their fatty tissue, eels are no worse than salmon, trout, mackerel, tuna in that respect. Unless you eat them every day you should be OK. Plus our rivers are now amongst the cleanest in Europe because heavy, polluting industry has largely dissapeared.

Don't think theres as many eels around as there used to be though, should really be returned if caught.
Used to catch loads in the Ribble, small bootlaces that you couldn't avoid. Same in the Leeds-Liverpool around Scarisbrick, don't think this is the case now.
