as big dave says mate most of the canals if not all are free dangling so you should be ok.caught eels at the wrenbury stretch years ago when i were knee high to a grasshopper the weaver is wyche anglers i think. you could get a ticket from tilleys or stapeley. about a tenner a year

hurlerston res. was the place for eels many moons ago. ad em to 4lb and lost bigger not day ticket though,cheap enough card from crewe l.m.r.

Dead right mate.The eel population has declined considerably.I used to catch quite a few a night with the odd good one but it is a lot slower now,hardly any bootlaces to fill in whilst you wait for that specimen.Should put them back really,they go through a hell of a lot for a jump! There are some corkers in Hurleston resser.Cheap ticket to!Good luck and return them if poss.

bet this canal holds some big uns.

Cheers fellas...some great info there.

Apparently the eel population is just 2% of what it was 30 years ago. Japanese eels were imported into Europe for food and they brought with them a virus which started the sad decline.

I had a tub of jellied eels today at Blackpool Pleasure Beach of all places, tasted like **** and I'll eat anything that swims normally.

Eels put up with enough. Without us anglers wanting to eat them as well.
+ the heavy metals thought doesn't count were eels are concerned, eels have the most in their flesh then any other fish due to them buying themselves in the silt all year round. thats why the scientists cut eels up to monitor levels of nearly every thing.
