Smile Tench

The tench seem to be having it lately. As long as one is fishing in the right place.
That's it for me for a couple of months, concentrate on my float rod, and the carp rods can fish for themselves, (chuck it and chance it).

Here's one I caught earlier, my only tench photo. 2006.

Some nice fish there lads, well done.

What weight is that one in the image, Manager? Looks quite a lump!

Must confess I have a real love of estate lake tench. Spent many happy hours last year tempting some lovely specimens to over 7lb on the float, topped by this little lump;

Hoping to spend some time in search of my first double later this year. Came ounces short with a stunning fish just before Izaak was born on Capesthorne but never had the chance to get back on since!

But this year I'm ready....

Crikey Julian - talk about starting your kids fishing early

It has been a while since I've had a good tinca session and I could be keen to try for a few. Do many come out of Capes main lake? I know they are in there, but haven't heard of too many being caught.

Mike.

Mine have all been out of the Top, Mike.

They used to average 3-4lb with a number over 5lb. I've had a few really nice onces between 5-8lb, and as I say, a real beauty last time I was on just ounces short of the magical 10lb mark. Not wet a line on there for a couple of years now, but hoping to get back on this year to see what I can do, hopefully my favored tench spots will still work!

The tench in there are stunning, lovely and dark, and every one a minter.

Cheers Julian,

The one in your photo is a lovely fish - if they are all that nice I will have to make a trip there with the avon rod, a lift float and a tub of corn!

Mike.

That's about 4 lb of tench and 2 lb of spawn by the look of it.
No knocking meant by that, it weighs what it weighs.

My photo was of a 7lb 3 oz fish, 1 of several that evening /morning up to 9lb 6oz.

I've yet to catch a 10lb tench, but I like them any size from 8oz upwards.

Beats mine.....bar-steward.

I have just looked at tench websites, the 15lb record of 2001 was caught on a boilie while carp fishing, does that count?

Had a fantastic morning's fishing today, landed 12 tench from 4.04 lbs to 7.10 lbs.
Also caught several good rudd etc.
Nuff said.

They were still having it when I left, but 7 hours non-stop fishing was enough for me.

Was up on Sunyy 1 with MASTERCASTER last week, and the only fish of the 48 hr session came in the last two minutes, in the shape of a 6lb 11oz Tinca. Not mine by the way, I'm proud to have kept up my blanking run !!

Not what we went for, but a damned good fish by all accounts.
