Interesting. Many moons ago long before incizor's or any specific long shanked carp hook were available I used to use a long shanked Kamasan salmon lure hook with a large loop of nylon as a giant d as the 'blow back' element, it was a very effective rig on Redesmere for me using as small a pop up as we could get away with.

Does anyone actually know the reason why SOTAS have banned long shanks?

I have used the blow back rig a lot over the last year and can honestly say it has done me proud, it's all about getting the right balance between the rig hair length and the weight of the bait.

I find a neutral bait works a lot better than a standard bottom bait.
