have you tried long hooklinks and lifting the lead on your cast

Get yourself some drennan surface controllers (available in different sizes) and put a pin ***** hole in the side. Using a bucket, fill the controller with water until it is 'tuned' to sink very slowly. Once the correct sink rate is achieved, simply seal up the hole and use this as a substitute for a lead on a lead clip arrangement in conjunction with a longish hooklink.
It will still cast fairly well and you can use a pva bag with some air trapped inside to reduce tangles if need be. This set up is also good for fishing over bottom weed by the way. If this is too much like hard work then you could always use the ch*d rig (I refuse to use that annoying southern word) but affix the hooklink right up at the opposite end to the lead with the two beads,as well as using a small half ounce lead. I've had a few fish in thick weed doing this so don't see it being much different on mega soft bottoms.

call it 'the silt' rig then ![]() I hate the word 'chod' but it's just thier slang word for silt, so in effect the chod rig is really the silt rig anyway, just danny fairamountofbrass like to call it the pukka get in chod rig

Like most things the chud rig is nothing new,an idea borrowed and sometimes slightly adapted. The short rig was brought to light by the northern porrn star moons back and even that was publicised nigh on fifteen years previous,if not more,in Lord Hutchinsons' excellent book 'Carp strikes back' in a similar vein.
