Default ID licences

Quote:
The environment agency has now revealed that is planning to introduce an id style laminated fishing licence. The plans are to be finalised later in the year, ready to be put in place for the 2008-2009 season. It may include a scannable bar code for bailiffs to be able to scan on the bank. The card will hold fewer details than the present paper licence, it would also be cheaper for the environment agency to produce. which will mean more money to invest in fisheries

what are your thoughts on this?

gotta be a good move right?

You can bet that it won't cost us less, and will it still be available at Post Offices?

Thats the sting in the Tail mate!..They love those admin fees just another way to fleece more money out of us! What i cant understand is why there is not a box to tick for 3 or more Rods? Surely that would save a fortune in admin and costs under the current system..But then again they would need to know what their doing to figure that one out!!!

Its all tax.

Sure..... 'some' of it goes to the EA for looking after our waters, but I bet a fine little fund goes off to 10 Downing street

Just another method of spying on us .

What with photo driving licences ,chipped passprts , forward facing speed cameras , CCTV in town centres ,traffic monitoring CCTV,the eye in the sky (police helecopters) and the forthcomming identity cards soon you will have to have you idenity card swiped at Asda,Tesco , sainsburys or Morrisons when you go to do your shopping just so the government can keep an eye on what you are buying from the shops .

You must wear a seatbelt you cant smoke in pubs.
Pensioners or on benefits you must notify us if you leave the country which they will pretty soon know anyway due to chipped passports

This country is getting more like the state described in Orwell's 1984 every day

The days of a right to privacy are long gone

Here we go again, bitch and moan all you like about it,won't make any difference to the end result-you need to buy one (or two) to fish without constantly looking over your shoulder (and theres no relaxation to be had from that) or give them more money later on when you get collared without said licence.

I really don't see what the problem is,its a price you pay for a recreational pastime which doesn't exist without some form of management from various bodies.

Mancity,I'll assume you support city yeah? Do you buy tickets to watch your beloved team play? If so then (and I'm not into football so correct me if I'm wrong) isn't the price of a ticket for ONE GAME that lasts ninety minutes plus a suck of an orange at half time round about the same price as a licence? And where does this money go to?

A fair percentage will go in the pocket of some 'talent' who can't control his high powered sports car or his alcopop down the local nightspot whilst making an ar$£ of himself...yet who has a moan that the ticket money is being squandered?

I'll be right next to you bitching the day they start to put a tax on breathing air or sunlight, you know...real necessities. But as big a part of our lives fishing is,its not a necessity its a leisurely pursuit so thus must somehow be funded.

As mentioned in other debates on this topic, the average carp anglers set up will easily run into the thousands,if £25/£50 is the straw that broke the camels back then its perhaps time to knock it all on the head and take up high speed knitting or something 'free'...

Same here..its definatley going that way and we are going to have to pay for it!! So the Government will be now thinking up some nice new stealth taxes it would not surprise me if they bring in a sliding scale on Rods ie use 3 and you pay more than the guy that uses 2 you watch this space!!

I don't mind paying for a rod license/s as such, I just wish the EA would sit down and discuss the 2 and 3 rod issue because as it stands at the moment it's massively wrong IMO! I reckon more people are risking fishing with 3 rods and only owning 1 license than those fishing with no license at all.

Mate what isn't a tax these days-you get taxed from the minute you get out of your bed till the moment you return. In all honesty no I don't think its a tax,but if it were does it really make any difference anyway? I'd love to own a crystal ball and show some folk what state many of our fisheries would be in were the EA not in any part involved in say fifteen years... then the real moaning would begin...

Just out of curiosity, let me put this scenario to you-you have a lovely quiet water that is 'free to fish' ie no day tickets,no club owns it,there are many of these places about. Lets say you've been quietly putting some bait in and have been getting some good results due to keeping it quiet and not many folk entertaining such a water.

Then one day,you arrive ready to fish your little prepped spot and find four big barrels discarded in the edge with a foul smelling substance pouring from them,a nasty slick covering the water and fish in varying states of fate whwerever you cast your eye. What do you do?! Call the fire brigade? Police? AA? This is just one example of where your £25 goes. And before anyone says this sort of thing doesn't happen...IT FKKIN DOES! Unmanned ponds/streams etc are prime target for illegal dumping and it rarely gets on the front page of the Daily Mirror as its not 'big news' so goes un noticed...

I can see cause for complaint with what Blue is saying about having to pay two lots for one extra rod and agree that a subcharge on top of one licence to use a third rod would be a fairer option, but from the EA's point of perception that would simply be cutting their funding source at the throat so obviously it is unlikely to happen. Just like asking the government to make the road really really bumpy 300 yards before a speed camera would reduce their income from fines...

Just be thankful you don't fish for 'posh' trout and salmon, their licence is far more expensive...and only covers one rod.
