You are missing the point completely fella. The core of your gripe from where I'm sat is that you have to pay for a licence to fish,and/or you are pished because some of that money goes to the government (and I'm unsure of whether thats even correct).

Hence my similae with the football ticket fee.

Ive no problem with ID cards, how is that spying on you. Sadly the country is totally ruined by criminals, violent out of control gangs, smackheads, illegal imigrants etc etc. The days when you could go out and leave the back door unlooked are well gone and sadly measures have to move with the times or face a lawless society. Anything that tries to help redress the ruination can only be good.

CCTV spying on you? Or making the streets safer?. It sad the country is in the state it is but take away these things and it will be even less safe to go into a town centre at night.

Totally agree with the comment on licence fees, ive bought two at a cost of £50, hopefully that money will be ploughed back into keeping are water ways free from pollution and stocked. Price of my ticket for the champions league 1/4 final at Old trafford £40 for ninety minutes of football.

IMHO there is no chance of the EA ever making a concession for a 3rd rod licence when the vast majority of waters only allow 2 rods and those that fish the waters that do allow the use of more than those 2 rods have to purchase the licences which would enable them to fish 4 rods even though they only want to put a 3rd rod down the margins . The EA have the law behind them & those who occaisionally want to fish a 3rd rod will have to fork out the full wack as if they were fishing 4 rods .

If you owned a shop and the law stated you could only sell tins of beans in multiples of 2 and a customer came in and only wanted 3 but had to buy 4 and you get the profit from that 4th unwanted can would you try and get the law changed so they only had to buy 3 ...I think not

Im quite happy to pay my £25/30 or whatever, depending on the rods used, and im grateful that i didnt fall on the game side of the fence, and have to pay their prices for the use of just the one stick,as has been pointed out previously

i used 2 be a residential social worker and used 2 deal with the e.a on a weekly basis 2 get free licences for the kids.most weeks id deal with the same lady and ended up on first name terms, i told her how i felt the licenceing system was un fair 2 carp anglers wishing two fish 3 rods. she chuckled and said if she had a pound for every time she heard that she,d be a millionaire. the e.a know what we want but mainly do what they want. dont get me wrong i respect what they do. just think they should listen to anglers.most carp anglers buy 2 licences every yr. what percentage do we make up of there annual revenue?

Stig, im pretty certain mate that when the licences were policed by the old regional water authorities, there was more that allowed the use of 3 rods in their bylaws, and 2 rods seemed to be more of a north west water thing, and maybe anglian(i think,my memorys not what it used to be),but thats bye the bye,and agree with you on the 3 for 1 theme all comes down to the dosh generated,ie why let us have 3rods on the one licence for £25,when to use 3 we have to pay £50,all comes down to basic economics, now if we talk say £40 for 3 thats a completely different ball game,or am i just playing devils advocate

its not just carpers we choose to use 3 rods if you want to have 1 licence use 2 rods
many matchmen only use 1 rod but pay for 2 as do fly fishermen i'm not saying its right as its not but were not being singled out
any way if they altered it to suit what everyone needs they will just increase it even more every year so you will pay the same

Just out of curiosity, let me put this scenario to you-you have a lovely quiet water that is 'free to fish' ie no day tickets,no club owns it,there are many of these places about. Lets say you've been quietly putting some bait in and have been getting some good results due to keeping it quiet and not many folk entertaining such a water.

Then one day,you arrive ready to fish your little prepped spot and find four big barrels discarded in the edge with a foul smelling substance pouring from them,a nasty slick covering the water and fish in varying states of fate whwerever you cast your eye. What do you do?! Call the fire brigade? Police? AA? This is just one example of where your £25 goes. And before anyone says this sort of thing doesn't happen...IT FKKIN DOES! Unmanned ponds/streams etc are prime target for illegal dumping and it rarely gets on the front page of the Daily Mirror as its not 'big news' so goes un noticed...

This scenario happened at a small pond which i was fishing about 3 years ago, i turned up to fish and was greeted with the sight of thousands of dead silvers, a few dead carp and the rest of the carp were in distress, so i rang EA pollution helpline. Two hours later two EA officers (dressed in suits)came out to said pond and were no help what so ever. All they were worried about was their shoes and trousers were getting muddy. They were there for about five minutes in which time one of them said "ah look a dead crucian" when i looked it was actually a rudd!!! I buy my licences every year but honestly dont know why......

Default money

its all about money, in this land of milk and honey. e.a. total joke a few years ago there was a fish kill on the tame (river) in reddish they recon in the region of 20,000 fish chub, roach, barbel, river carp. we all know where it came from .sewer waste still gets pumped into to river (not that im saying thats where it came from ) the waste that goes into this river from this sewer works disgrace nobody wants to know because no club has the fishing rights. oh by the way the e.a. put 3000 small fish roach/chub back in so the cormarants could have a bit of a snack

Aren't many other hobbies/sports that you can do for £25 or £50 a year, add a decent club or syndicate ticket to that and can still have access to 12 months quality fishing for £350 or less

i agree but how much does it cost to bird spot, go walking, canoe, cycle.not a lot i would guess but they all have a big shout about our waterways yet dont pay a single penny we pay a large amount of money to a gov run body called the e.a. its only my opinion but i think we should get better value for money. thats my rant for the day over
