Phil id take the rod into a rod building tackle shop and let them sort it out for you, i wouldnt really want tape on my rods you need a permanent repair.

I have had rods rerung in Trevs in the past and other minor repairs but not sure they still build rods. someone should be able to recommend a shop, cant see it being an expensive job.

Take it into any decent tackle shop Phil. The will know a local rod builder/repair service. Dont try it yourself - you will not be satisfied with the result. Get a quote first but its not usually that expensive - good luck

Phil
If you have got duplon handles above the reel seat this will require removing to allow the reel seat to be taken off. The area below the reel seat can then be cleaned up and taped to the required thickness before epoxy is spread on the tape. The reel seat is then slid back onto the taped area and the duplon refitted.
If you are confident you could manage this yourself, if not the the advice from IanB and davidg is the best bet...seek professional help.
