Default Fixed back Leads

Just a question i thought of last night, How does back leading, especially a fixed back lead under the rod tips effect bite intication.

I was just thinking about drop backs, and how trhey might not register, as the line is pinned to the lake bed.

can any one advise?

caught a decent kipper only last week with a vicious drop back with a back lead under the rod tip...
line should pass through pretty easy with a good lead, i,me always careful not to just chuck em in any old way...
back leading will always have good & bad points, indication is never going to be as good using 1 but might get you the bite in the first place....
only use under the rod tip when using 3 rods so not to get in a mess playing fish close in, use the flying leads most of the time

try using the captives on a short line . basically so the actuall backlead is underneath the 2nd eye down the rod !..on about 4ft of line if possible...it pops off on the take more often than not !

dont use em very often but they do have there uses !

When backleading which ever you use, you have to balance the correct weight of indicator with the set up and not use just one size because they look good.
I fish a short drop with a heavy indicator (up to 4oz) so a drop back is instantly shown or the bobbin must pull to the top before the fish can kite on a tight line, whichever happens you get movement, which means the alarm sounds and you know something is happening.
Ive seen backleads hanging mid water because they are'nt heavy enough, Ive seen tiny little indicators, balls tight to the rod and people pick up to find the fish has kited 30yds on the backlead. All bad angling with no thought.
If your a fan of backleads you need various weights for the bobbin and choose the weight of your backleads carefully and balance the two, how far out you have your backleads plays a big part too. As for captive backleads, Ive seen fish swim between backlead and bank whilst being played out and it created one heck of mess, captive backleads are not for me but each to their own. Hope Ive given food for thought on indication though
