Default PVA'ing a zig-rig

Hi Guys,

When using decent sized zig-rigs, who 'trusts' curling the hook-length and tying it with PVA I fancy the idea, but dont at the same time.

I know I can try the bubble float method where you set the depth after you've cast out, but was just wondering if anyone has had any problems with the above way?

I've not tried it mate, what I tend to do is pva another boilie and/or put a PVA nugget round the hook on the cast. This helps stop tangles and I've found.

Cheers mate,

I do this, but find when I reel in abit of the hook-length is wrapped around the lead, but this could just be happening on the retrieve

It happens with zigs The best thing you can do is try and watch the hook length as you cast it out, sometimes you see it wraping round the mainline on the cast, other times, the hook length stays well clear and sails out neatly

I have tried in the past putting zig rigs in a pva bags and found that when I reeled in 9 times out of 10 it would be tangled. I have also tried tying them up with pva tape with little success. The best way I have found is to use a lead clip set up with tubing, give it a good whack out and stop the line before the lead hits the water. By doing this the hook bait fly’s past the lead and you will see if you get a tangle. You should see where the lead hits the water and where the hook bait hits the water past where the lead landed.

Grizzly is right in what he says, the best and most effective way of getting a zig out a long was without it tangling is to give it a good whack, dont take your eyes off the lead/hookbait then as the lead is about to hit the water stop the line with your finger on your spool; which will then throw the hookbait away from the lead. It is normally pretty obvious if it has tangled...

Not necessarily. Wind it in too fast and it'll act like a propellor and spin you a lovely fluorocarbon cardigan for you to spend the next half hour trying to untangle.

Have a look in the pike section in your local shop for some sea or pike deadbait casting clips and use a bit of grey matter in conjunction with float stops so they aren't fixed onto the line creating a tether set up...

I find using the sub floats is the only way of making sure that it don't get tangled

I set mine up with a 2ft hooklink to the sub float giving plenty of room for carp to move without seeing the float
