Surely this 'forcing down the hookpoint' also means that there is a far greater chance of picking up crap off the lake bed and imparing getting a good hookhold? (especially with a critically balanced bait which will flutter round when fish are near)

I too was a bit dubious about this when i first used it, but not had any probs. I always cast it out with either a bit of rig foam or with the hook threaded into a small PVA bag to stop it catching on any debris whilst it settles on the lake bed, and then once its settled i just take up the slack line by slowly turning the spool and not actually winding with the reel handle, so that the rig doesnt move!
