You missing the point mate, If it becomes no fishing, its one less day ticket water, meaning one place less for the bell ends to go, so they will "invade" other waters

If it is now National trust there are no reasons for fishing to stop however they may hand it over/lease it to a reputable club to run but Tatton is National trust and they still allow angling . The is also another NW water that is National trust that a club has & that club also has a publicity ban so i cannot mention it but i can say it is in the Macclesfield /Alderley area

Angling: Burton Mere set to close as RSPB swoop inJan 3 2008

by David Houghton, Liverpool Echo

BURTON MERE has been sold to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and closes on January 16.

It is a body blow to discerning anglers who have enjoyed quality fishing in pleasant surroundings for 30 years on south Wirral.

The complex of four lakes have been open to everyone on a day-ticket basis and provided a real chance of catching a bigger-than-average fish across a range of species, including being the first in the region to stock catfish.

Many of Britain’s best known anglers, as well as the likes of John Aldridge, have been guests at Burton, with many Echo angling events held there several times.

The owner and creator of the fishery, 59-year-old Terry Knight, has already received scathing and negative comments from anglers suggesting that he is being ‘disloyal’ selling the fishery to the RSPB charity, but it is fairer to applaud the man for giving us such discerning high quality fishing for three decades.

T.K/Burton Mere and the words "discerning high quality fishing" don't quite go together imho.

The best laugh I have had in ages.

i've mixed feelings myself, its a shame to see it lost to angling but on the other hand, good riddance to the owner

It is a pity that somebody didn't buy it from a fishing point of view.I am sure that it could have been turned into one of the best day ticket fisheries in the N.W with a little hard work.
