I once went to a well known day ticket fishery near macclesfield. The place was over run by chavs, they were drinking and smoking all day but kept them selves to them selves. When it went dark, on came the portable tv etc and it then got a whole lot worse.
A lad who used to work in trevs was there with his mrs. One of the lads started to follow her to the toilet and back every time she went and things got very nasty. She called her dad, who turned up with his son and mates who went looking for the lad, this cahv then called all his mates from manchester who came down and i can only describe the preceeding events as a scene out of bravehart! Im my opinion, drink and fishing dont mix and this only re enforces my opinons! |

To be honest i'm not sure on the subject.
YES i do like having couple of cans on the bank, but only sensible amounts, i.e. i no what i'm doing, i'm save and i'm not staggering round the bank peeing people off. BUT i fish a syndicate and there are few lads on there that really take the mickey, they are proper proper bladdered in the summer and it really does my head in. God knows what they would be like if they had a run in the night because they are that plastered i don't think they'd here there alarm going but then again they don't catch fik all anyways I do that for them![]() So in conclusion yes have a few tins if your sensible, but being completly plastered on the bank - leave that to the pubs and clubs Lowey.

A lot of people go fishing to relax and de-stress from work. A few beers or glasses of red help the mood along. If alcohol is allowed ill take a maximum of four cans of carling, i know im fine on four, if i took more i might be temped to drink more so i always limit it.
The recent ban on stoke waters has no doubt about by the selfish idiots who get totally wasted and have now spoilt it for all. I walked the redesmere shallows about four years ago and spoke to to carpers at 11am who were downing stellas and were clearly bladdered, they had massive bags of empty cans hanging in the trees. You cant risk drunken idiots handling beautiful old carp. So i guess the club had to act. |

Bit of a sweeping statement, that one - and to be honest I think you're missing the point. No one’s saying that it’s impossible to enjoy fishing without having a beer, rather that for some, it can add an *extra* element of relaxation or enjoyment to an already pleasurable experience. It’s just like having a biscuit with your brew, brown sauce with your cheese on toast, or prawn crackers with your Chinese – none are additions that would otherwise make the former unacceptable, but each, given the right circumstances, can add an extra element of enjoyment to the person partaking. If you are a responsible drinker, you drink for enjoyment, not to get drunk – be it at home watching the match, out with friends, in the pub, restaurant or whatever – and just because you enjoy a drink does not automatically mean you are somehow missing a trick with all that’s there to be enjoyed around you. I’m a true nature boy at heart and get just as much enjoyment from ‘being out there’ as I do from the actual act of fishing. I grew up in a very remote forest valley miles away from even the nearest house. As such, I learnt to appreciate all that nature has to offer from a very early age - from about seven onwards I got a better nights sleep out under the stars than I did indoors, so to be honest, I find some of your remarks quite patronising. Most of the trips I get nowadays are limited to just a few hours stalking here and there, so of course I’m not going to be drinking as I’m too busy trying to find the fish, but on the rare occasion I can share a decent session on the bank with a few like minded individuals, I can honestly say there’s nothing nicer than casting out the rods for the night, cooking up a big dinner, and sharing a beer or a glass of wine with a few friends as the sun sets over the horizon. Besides, not all of us are lucky enough to be able to do our relaxing in the pub or at home. I literally never have a minute at home as I’m either looking after the kids, working, sleeping or working some more, and I honestly can’t remember the last time I was able to just go out to the pub for a drink – it’s certainly over a year ago! As such, the only time I can switch off and unwind for a while, albeit very briefly, is on the bank. And if time permits and I fancy it (and I’ve not fallen asleep from tiredness first), then I’ll happily sip a can as the sun goes down – and I’m not afraid to say so! I’m hoping to do a night this weekend with a friend whom I’ve not been able to catch up with since June, and rest assured, once we’ve cooked up a big lobby on the stove, we’ll sit back, open a couple of cans, and enjoy each others company whilst we have the chance. My only “serious problem” is with those who try to enforce their views on others. ![]() J |

Just my two pennorth.....
I, like a lot of us, have a demanding job and after a weeks 'headul of mad' I toddle off to my chosen water for a relaxing weekend. Having barrowed your gear round the lake, spent at least a couple of hours spodding etc and setting up theres nowt better than sitting back with a can of cold beer (especially in summer) and surveying the water. It is always the minority who turn up armed with 3 x 24 packs intent on a party but the majority end up having their privelages removed due to others' actions. I know theres no easy answer to dealing with the problem but I wonder what it will be like on certain waters, Astbury for instance, sat there on a summer's evening beer-less whilst all around you, gangs of teenage kids openly swig bottles of stella and discard their empties in the lake??

I have to agree with you chesh its definatley a common sense thing i myself like a couple of cans when i go,not so much now its cold or im in and out of the bivvy every five mins peeing, but in summer when i do a lot of nights through the week i finish work get to the lake and set up sit back and unwind with a couple of cans i could never think about getting smashed for fear of sleeping through a run and most important of all the fishes welfare.
