Default How to knot stiff mono

Hi guys,

Trying to accomplish a loop knot in my combi rig (to attach to a quick change swivel, I pulled really tight and ended with a barbed hook in my thumb

What knot do you use for connecting a stiff mono to your lead etc?

How do you do a 4-turn blood knot mate?

The only blood knots I can find are for joining 2 lines together but this is to create a look in the mono (20lb)

Question Knots

Owdo Mancity,

Loop knot, i use a simple figure of 8 knot, same knot as the surgeons knot on the animated knot website, never let me down

What do you mean by attaching stiff mono to your lead ?

Are you using it as a leader (chod rig etc) or as a hooklink just need to find out how you will be using it ?

Errrrrrr..... Surely the first bit of advice on this thread should be don't hold your hook whilst pulling knots tight. Try using ase a loop of string/baiting needle/forcep handle round the bend of the hook to pull against, rather than your thumb!

Mike.

The f-ing thing snapped, hence I got a barbed Korda wide gape in my thumb.

Please, give me some credit

A half blood knot with 20lb mono can be done with only 2 or 3 turns it will NEVER slip.. But as I suspect you are using a quick change hooklink system then you need a loop in the hooklink right??...well I always use a simple overhand loop knot or figure of 8 as it is called. As long as you pull down really hard and add saliva it will create a very secure loop for easy rig use. As for getting hooks in your fingers and thumbs I sometimes just put the hookpoint into an old wine cork...cheap and effective...

To create a loop which i think is the question. Figure 8 is good and can be done with anything.

If you just want to tie a clip on, then a blood knot with a couple of turns. For bristle filament i use 3 turns and that works fine. You can use any knot really just take your time, so materials are more difficult but most knots will work with 20lb stuff.

Ouch! Look on the bright side thugh - you could have ended up with the baiting needle in your hand as well. Every cloud and all that!

Get well soon matey.

Mike.
