Default A KHV Message From Echo

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

News from Defra reached ECHO this morning, of a confirmed case of the deadly Koi Herpes Virus (KHV) in the Wigan, Lancashire area. All fish movements have been restricted as part of the controls available under the new notifiable status of the disease.
However, I understand that the fishery concerned had possibly become a "dumping" ground for all things ornamental-I think we all now a pond or two like that!-there is public access to the venue and over the years the carp stocks have become a multi-coloured rainbow of colours...........no doubt local residents re-homing their beloved pet with little understanding of the fatal consequences.....who knows......and what with flooding to contend with......if it rains it pours I guess!!!

Not sure if it's still the same but carp in and around Wigan used to have a strange ability to turn up in different lakes

Just hope no-one decides to "rescue" some of the carp, are some decent fish in there
