Default SOTAS and barbless

been into a tackle shop today for some hooks and a few bits.Well amazingly they only stocked carp hooks in barbless. So I said non of my waters were barbless and I dont know many people that use them and thought they would do well to stock barbed, I also told him how i had seen mouth damage when using barbless. He told me that most clubs these days are barbless but I told him 3 that I fish that arnt....well in the end he even said the SOTAS was barbless to which i was surprised and really I thought he was wrong but didnt say anything. So do SOTAS enforce a barbless only rule...

SOTAS are not barbless and I agree that they seem to be run by people that know what they are doing.
But my preference would be for compolsary barbed hooked and also for long shanked hooked to be o.k also.

SOTAS only have 2 waters which are barbless hooks only and they are Capesthorne stock pond and Fanshawe

However though not a rule stating you cannot use barbed hooks for ellenhall pools the membership booklet states

" It would be appreciated if members would use barbless hooks "

I think a lot of clubs are coming round to the idea that barbless can cause a lot of damage. It took some hard work 5 years ago to convince the rest of the VBAS committee as the argument is not simple to explain to people using small hooks all the time (rest bof committee are match style anglers), but i did get the message accross and we've left it to the anglers discretion. Having said that, I think Yateley (or one of the bigger angling complex's) have a rule of barbed hooks only.
