Default good luck and bad

Took my mate fishing for the first time Friday at Rixton clay pits, set my two rods up and slowly talked him through the ins and outs of the tackle and the best way of setting up. Went into his swim and watched him set up his two rods again explaining everything to him as we went. I also explained that carp fishing is a waiting game pitting your knowledge and wits against the fish; I also explained that all this will come with experience and many hours on the bank staring at motionless bite alarms.
I gave him a rod to cast out a couple of times with no hook attached to minimise damage to myself the trees and any ducks in the area. After a couple of chucks with no dramas I attached his rig with a plum pop up and asked him to pick his spot and hope for the best. He said I will put it in between them two islands (I was thinking to myself no way is he going to make this cast) he then made a perfect cast that I would be proud of. He then had a chuckle to himself whilst he set up the rod on the pod and just as he grabbed his other rod WHAM he got a screamer on the first (20 seconds if that) after a good scrap and some superb coaching from myself he landed his first carp a mirror at 16lb, what a result. After putting the rod back in the drink 15 minutes later another take this time a 6lb tench.
To top all this of I had a nightmare with a boilie needle and a pop up. The boilie split and I ended up with a boilie needle sticking out the top of me thumb rammed in about half an inch. 45 minutes of playing and cutting with my knife and the thing was still wedged in solid (thought it might be a trip to A and E) ended up laying a bank stick across me thumb applying pressure so I couldn’t move my thumb whilst my mate counted to three yanked the thing out just before legging it down the bank before I could swing for him. Don’t know how many anglers carry a first aid kit but mine came in handy, not a nice experience but was all ok after.
All in all a good 24 hours carping my mate is now hooked and so was I!!!!!!!!!………

well done your m8 .................. count your self lucky my ex fishin mate sat on a gardner stringer needle. i had to cut round the spot on his trowsers and spent an hour manovering the end through a new hole in his flesh and then cut the hook off and pull it back out again. then off to casualty for a tetanus. he had to stand up in the back of the transit for the half hour trip home cos he couldnt sit down

had a fish spit the rig out in the landing net once and when i went to retrieve it the fish jumped and the hook jammed in my finger and the line was round the fish ,the more the fish thrashed about the more the hook was pulled into my finger
i eventually untangled everything and then had to rip the hook out with a pair of forceps , so i know what it feels like now !
