i would be nice to keep to close season on some waters but not on them all as its nice to be able to fish all way though. plus spring on some lakes can be the best time

I am not a fan of the close season. In my opinion it robs us of 2 of the best months for catching fish. The winter is long, cold and dark.Just as things start to wake up the lakes are shut for 2 1/2 months
I can understand that one of the reasons for a close season is that fish will be spawning but no respectable angler would fish for them at that time.

i am a fan of closed season but since the advent of climate change i believe that the closed period should be brought forward to actually coincide with the spawning of the fish !

took the words right out of my mouth! i agree with a closed but do find it a little annoying when i watch the fish feed like hell for 2 and a half months only to get on the water after the closed to watch them spawn

The lake I would like to be fishing is shut and you are not even allowed on the property during the close season to have a look at the fish.
It isn't that bad for me though as I have another water to target and I am having 3 or 4 nights on Linear in April as well.

yep i have the exact problem on my water.................it gets shut for a period of 2 months in the spring just as the fish wake up and when they could really be benefiting from the high quality baits being used !

By the time june comes the fish have started their yearly rituals !

I do believe this shut down to be important though as it allows the bankside vegatation to recover !

Personaly i am a big fan of the closed season .It gives everything a break from angling pressure the vegetation like Phil said ,the fish and the local wildlife all get a break from human invaders for a while

i also like the traditional values of a closed season and find it very honest of fisheries/clubs/syndicates to close and not just cream off people's money

It seems that I am very much in the minority in my dislike for the close season.

What does everyone do for 2 months?

Catching up on all the jobs around the house to keep wifey happy is my guess

totally agree , i do think the fish should have a rest but do it when they are actually spawning and not feeding heavy maybe round june time
some of my best catches have been in march , april and early may and it seems daft to shut down then and then re open when there not that bothered about feeding and when they do really need that bit of respite
it seems to me that the powers that be have got it all about face when it actually comes to giving the fish and the lakes a break !

I think the close season should be while the fish are spawning too.

I switch over to my other clubs' waters as they dont have a close season .

alot of it is common sense really as it should remain open in spring i.e. the best two months then its up to the anglers to use their common sense when they start spawning as you aint going to catch them whilst they have other things on their minds!

simple as really

having said all that, could you imagine what it would be like to fish through, only to have a 2 month gap when it's really warm and US anglers need the sun after a rainy winter!!
